Bud Oglesby is one of our best-known modernist architects. He designed everything from small condos to massive luxury homes. Fortunately, he was prolific, so many of his residences have survived. One of Oglesby’s most interesting designs recently hit the market, and it’s in one of our most idyllic and exclusive neighborhoods — Park Bridge Court.

Park Bridge Court: The Perfect Location

Park Bridge Court has only 14 homes. Without a great Realtor, you’d be hard-pressed to even find this neighborhood.

In the 1970s, Park Bridge Court was intentionally designed to be secluded so there is only entry by one bridge over Turtle Creek. The neighborhood lies on a bluff backing up to what is now the Katy Trail, which is accessed by a private gate.

You are minutes away from the Park Cities, downtown Dallas, and the Dallas Arts District, yet have complete privacy.

Bud Oglesby And Russell Buchanan: A Perfect Pairing

Oglesby finished this modernist home in 1988. Even the most architecturally significant homes need to be updated three decades on and that is a tall order.

In 2019, previous owners turned to a logical choice, Russell Buchanan of Buchanan Architecture. I cannot imagine anyone better suited to update an Oglesby. Buchanan is known for restoring Edward Durell Stone’s 1958 masterpiece Oak Court after Jennifer and John Eagle purchased the home.

The modernist home also has a hidden safe, a Lutron system, an elevator, and auto shades on the foyer windows.

The three-bedroom, three-and-one-half-bath residence features generously proportioned formals, an office, and a library.

If you have not seen Buchanan’s residential architecture like Cube House, Casa Linder, or Sunrise House, you can stroll through the Dallas Arboretum to enjoy local chefs at the Charlotte and Donald Test Pavilion, which he designed.

It’s easy to see from his body of work that Buchanan was the perfect choice, and I think Oglesby would be pleased.

A Bulthaup kitchen system includes stainless-steel countertops, a white matte lacquer island, white oak cabinetry, and cork floors.

What we have now is a beautifully updated 5,669-square-foot modernist. Buchanan worked with builder Bert Smith to bring this home into a new decade, and it’s simply flawless.

A signature Oglesby element is the foyer. They are never just a place to drop your coat and hat. They are always a gallery space where you linger with your first cocktail and enjoy the genius of Oglesby’s blend of form and light.

“All Oglesby homes are extremely special. This one, in particular, because of its location, makes you feel like you are in a treehouse.”

The second-floor primary features a sitting area with a fireplace.

The home has the original wood floors and the 12-foot ceilings Oglesby is also known for.

One of the more interesting features of this home is how the office connects to a turfed deck overlooking the Park Bridge Court neighborhood. I know that’s where you’d find me!
