IBB Day of Design Features Shay Geyer on “Greenery”

IBB Design Fine Furnishing’s own Shay Geyer will lead a Feb. 25 workshop on how to add Pantone’s color of the year to your home.

Many were perplexed when Pantone announced that the 2017 color of the year was “Greenery” — how on earth do you add such a bold, lively, and by all means bright shade to home decor?

But for IBB Design Fine Furnishing’s Shay Geyer, it was a green light to inspiration. She’s found just the right balance for every style in adding this verdant color to rooms, and she wants to show you how.

You can learn how to make “Greenery” your personal color of the year in Shay’s noon presentation during the store’s “Day of Design” workshops this Saturday, Feb. 25. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., IBB Design staffers will host demonstrations on a bevy of subjects, as well as featuring some of the best vendors in the industry. They daylong event is open to the public, so do stop in!

We wanted to get a few advance tips from Shay about applying “Greenery” to our rooms and beyond …

What rooms are great places to add “Greenery” to a palette?

Shay Geyer: Greenery is a color that can be incorporated into many spaces throughout a home.  I love it as an accent in a family room or kitchen.  I also think it could be fabulous in a home office or study.  I remember seeing gorgeous lacquered green walls & ceiling in the Kips Bay Show House in New York a few years ago.  It was spectacular!

I’d shy away from Greenery as a paint color for any bathroom.  The yellow undertones will make your skin tone look sallow.

What are other shades that pair well with Greenery?

Geyer: I absolutely love Greenery paired with navy — one of my favorite neutrals.  It’s a perfect pop of color with other neutrals like gray or “greige” as well.  If you love to layer in color, a saturated lavender or Aqua would be such a fresh palette when paired with Greenery.
