Hollywood Heights TudorAcross America from around 1890 to 1940, European-trained architects helped create a homebuilding trend influenced by Old World styles. These people brought the eclectic, asymmetrical Tudor revival style to the U.S.

In Dallas, there are several pockets of these beautiful solid masonry homes, with steeply pitched gable roofs, elaborate decorative stone and brickwork, and oversized fireplaces. One of the largest is in the Hollywood Heights/Santa Monica area of East Dallas. (Yes, we visited this neighborhood last week, and this listing is only block over, but this Tudor is too good not to mention today!)410 Valencia AToday’s Thursday Three Hundred at 410 Valencia St. was built in 1939, and is large for its era at 1,964 square feet. That extra space comes from walling in the sunroom and creating the master suite. This is a slightly unorthodox move, but it added a couple of hundred extra square feet and another bathroom, taking this from a 2-1 to a 3-2, a big difference for the residents and potential asking price.

From the street, you can see the leaded glass windows, just to the left of the porch, the arch of which is framed with decorative stonework. Mature shade trees and lovely architectural details, like the three steep gables in the roofline, create a welcoming vibe.

This house is newly listed as of Oct. 9 by David Bush of David Bush Realtors for $399,000.

Richardson Reno Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred takes us to a North Richardson reno with over 2,000 square feet and interior updates that look stellar.

The house at 3307 N. Spring Dr. near Renner and Jupiter roads is a total reimagining of the space: it was built in 1984, but looks modern and enticing. This 3-2 has 2,154 square feet covered in rich-looking hardwoods and new carpeting, with fantastic kitchen and bathroom updates.

It’s located in Plano ISD, a highly ranked district which takes students from Plano, northern portions of Dallas and Richardson, and portions of Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Lucas, Murphy, Parker, and Wylie.Richardson Reno Inside this unassuming brick house, you’ll find a kitchen that looks like this! Who would guess?

There’s also a bonus second living area with wet bar with granite counters, and throughout the house, the angled ceilings and fresh paint in a palette of grays give this place an unusual, memorable look.

This house is newly listed for $276,000 by Brian Shuey with Ebby Halliday Realtors. Let’s take a look at what makes this house shine.

updated lake highlands

“Home is the nicest word there is,” proclaimed pioneer Laura Ingalls Wilder, and we agree with the sentiment. It’s particularly true when it’s a house as lovely as the updated Lake Highlands home at 10836 Ferndale Rd.

From the street, it looks friendly, with a big front yard, large trees, and a freshly painted exterior. But the interior is what really wows, with a vaulted ceiling in the living room anchored by a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace, a totally updated kitchen, and a crisp, clean look throughout. Built in 1967, this traditional has been extensively renovated to reflect a more contemporary look and feel.

This 4-4 has 2,526 square feet on two stories, with a well-planned layout: the master and one bedroom are downstairs; the open staircase leads to a landing overlooking the den with its vaulted ceiling; the kitchen has new appliances, granite countertops, a breakfast area, and a huge pantry.

This house went under contract days after being listed by Kevin Caskey at Dallas City Center Realtors for $365,000, so let’s take a look at what made it such a hot item. (more…)
