Stephen White says he truly enjoyed his time at Allie Beth Allman & Associates.  However, the opportunity to work with and learn from a long-time friend convinced him it was time to change.  On August 6, he announced that he was moving to eXp Realty.

“I’ve got nothing but good things to say about Allie Beth and the firm. They couldn’t have been better or nicer, and I enjoyed my experience there,” White said. “Trey Williams is the reason I moved.  We’ve worked really well together and he offered to kind of mentor me and show me the ropes.”

Williams and White met at Bonton Farms, the South Dallas nonprofit bringing hope to an area lacking food options and work opportunities.  About five years ago, White was looking for a new way to give back.  He approached Café Momentum founder Chad Houser, who suggested he meet with Bonton Farms executive director Daron Babcock.

“Daron and I hit it off and I started helping out down there,” White said. “It’s kind of become a calling for me”

Complaints about skyrocketing property tax bills are nothing new, but few people take the time to find out exactly what goes into that number. For many, fighting property taxes has not been a priority because they could ultimately write-off the amount on their income taxes. That changes this year.

Under the guidelines of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was passed at the end of 2017, write-offs are now capped at $10,000. In Dallas County, that’s about the average tax bill of a home valued at $450,000.

Dallas Central Appraisal District staff saw Stephen White a lot last year. The founder and president of Sentry Real Estate Advisors spent hours in the musty DCAD building researching property appraisals. His goal was to help clients fight their perpetually increasing property tax bills. He expects to be even busier this year.

“With the new tax laws that are out there, it is important that people keep focused,” White said.

Homeowners were previously allowed to deduct property taxes from their federal income taxes. Under the terms of the new tax code, that amount is now capped at $10,000, increasing the financial burden for those with large property tax bills.

“A lot of the ramifications have not been realized because people haven’t felt the pain yet,” he added.

White, a Park Cities-based agent for Allie Beth Allman and Associates, founded Sentry last year on the premise that he could generate business by providing a service that nobody else would offer for free.
