When I saw this charming 1938 Hollywood Santa Monica Tudor, I didn’t even recognize it as the same adorable cottage, at 6804 Vivian Avenue, that I’d written about three years ago. I couldn’t put my finger on why I failed to remember it, as the prominent leaded window with stained glass accents is such a standout it’s hard to forget. In case you didn’t already know, the signs lining Gaston Road should serve as a reminder that your favorite home tour is just around the corner!

Every year I fall in love with Lakewood all over again at the annual Lakewood Home Festival. This year, the 37th for the home tour benefiting Lakewood Early Childhood PTA, is no different. The houses are impeccable, a selection of great architecture and history that anyone with eyes will just fawn over.

This year’s tour runs from Nov. 8 to 10 and, as usual, includes a market and cafe inside Lakewood Elementary where you can get a bite and shop local art in between stops on the tour. The weekend kicks off Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. with the Auction Party and Black & White Masquerade Ball at the Palomar Hotel, and concludes Sunday, Nov. 10. It’s a fantastic weekend that is not to be missed.

And truly, is there a better cause than supporting elementary education? I sincerely doubt that Lakewood public schools could have improved as much as they have in recent years without the funding and encouragement of groups such as the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA. Find out more about what LECPTA is doing in the community on their website.
