When you’re describing a luxury property, the ‘wow-factor’ always gets top billing. Fancy pools with incredible fountains and fire features are great, but have you ever tried a great porch?

“I’m a sucker for a good screened in porch,” says Compass agent Sam Claussen, who is marketing 6306 Lavendale, our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans.

Of course, with summer temperatures at the backs of our minds with all of this rain, we have to mention that the pool is nothing to sneeze at, either.

It’s hard to live in North Oak Cliff and not know about the stately white manse in Winnetka Heights that hosts the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts. The Turner House, a beautiful modified Prairie Foursquare home built in 1912 for Winnetka Heights developer J.P. Blake, has become something of a cultural epicenter for North Oak Cliff, hosting all manner of artists, openings, and even private events. It was renamed “Turner House” in 2002 as an homage to the founder of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts, E.P. Turner.

However, no 100-plus-year-old home is exempt from the toll time takes, and Winnetka Heights‘ Turner House has been in various phases of repair over the last several weeks, with the porch roof receiving special attention during the reconstruction. To support the Turner House and the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts, join Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans at Oak Cliff’s original High Caliber Home from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, for a Derby Day celebration.

As more and more Baby Boomers are struggling to downsize from larger, family-oriented properties, the appeal of “aging in place” has grown. In AARP’s “Survey of Home and Community Preferences,” 76 percent of Americans aged 50 and older said that they wanted to remain in their current home as long as possible. So, if you’re already planning to make a move, choosing a home that will work into your retirement is key.

A home that works well for Baby Boomers looking to “age in place” will have plenty of security, a first-floor master suite, an elevator to access the upper floors, a low-maintenance landscape, and plenty of room for visiting family and friends. Of course, many Baby Boomers don’t want to waste precious time redecorating or remodeling, so finding a home that is move-in ready is absolutely key.

Today’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans is all of those things and stylish, to boot! It’s a gorgeous brick traditional listed by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate’s Stewart Lee and it’s perfect for all of those beautiful Easter brunches with your loved ones! We’re also in love with the neighborhood — Glen Lakes

“Glen Lakes is a fantastic gated community conveniently located and close to major shopping,” Lee said. “It has friendly neighbors and wonderful recreational facilities including a spectacular 2.5-mile trail for walking in a park setting with private lakes and fountains. It also includes a pool, heated spa, and two tennis courts.”

If you want to live close to downtown Dallas on the east side, you have a few choices: an apartment, a townhome, or one of the historic single-family homes in Old East Dallas. However, this listing from David Griffin & Company Realtor Robert Kucharski is the exception to this general rule. This Bryan Parkway Tudor is a recent build in a cozy, quaint historic neighborhood close to downtown Dallas, offering easy living in a fantastic location.

What’s not to love about this High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans? With its stately brick facade, spacious lot, and fabulous details, we’re hard pressed to find any downside to this Bryan Parkway Tudor at 6122 Bryan Parkway.

“The home appeals to today’s buyer because it offers an open, versatile floor plan with an abundance of windows to welcome the outside into the home,” Kucharski said. “Located in a historic neighborhood, it is surrounded by beautifully unique homes and is located walking distance to area restaurants and boutique stores.”

Located inside the exclusive Lake Forest subdivision, there’s not much about this classic Hill Forest Drive mansion that doesn’t scream “high caliber.” Built in 2000, this home received a complete and thorough renovation recently that has made this gem of a listing into the crown jewel of the neighborhood.

“Everything about this home is simply remarkable,” says Debbie Ingram, listing agent of 6917 Hill Forest, this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. “One steps into this home, which is an oasis and welcome respite from the outside world!”

Ingram describes this Hill Forest Drive mansion as chic, sophisticated, classy, and timeless — which is what we expect of such an outstanding High Caliber Home. And the remodel doesn’t disappoint, either.

“A complete, gutted remodel of the home in the last few years implemented the finest in design, materials, and craftsmanship,” Ingram added. In fact, the interior remodel totaled more than $750,000 in upgrades, making this classic Hill Forest Drive mansion an absolute deal at $1.618 million.

Turtle Creek Pad

There are very few condos in which I could easily see myself living, mostly because I’m rather fond of backyards and front porches, as are my two dogs and rambunctious 7-year-old. That said, this particularly stylish unit inside The Beverly on Turtle Creek definitely has my eye.

“The designers who made this home so special are the homeowners who brilliantly selected everything themselves,” says Harriet Shaw, the listing agent of this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. “Their visionary expertise and impeccable coordination of interiors and decor in fact was featured in D Home 2018.”

A lot of the time, when I fall in love with a home, I see that long list of exclusions and my heart just sinks. I’m no designer, and when a home is expertly furnished, it’s hard to not want to buy all the furnishings and fixtures that fill it so well.

But that’s not the case with this particularly stylish High Caliber Home, says Shaw. In fact, all of the gorgeous furnishings are up for grabs should you want to negotiate.

Though it’s unlikely to find any snow outside your home during a Texas winter, that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the Danish concept of hygge, which has gained popularity in our culture recently. Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), which means “to cherish oneself; to keep or make oneself snug” is though to be the etymological origin for the English word “hug,” and perfectly describes the embrace that this 1925-built Kessler Square Tudor offers with its loads of cozy details.

I had no problem picturing myself in this listing from Robert Kucharski of David Griffin & Company Realtors, and if you are a fan of spaces that spill over with hygge, you’ll want to nab our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. From the plentiful curb appeal and charm of the entire neighborhood, to the copious amenities this red-brick Tudor offers, you’ll never want to leave your cozy home!
