CompassWe spend plenty of time talking about the best of open houses here on CandysDirt.com, but Compass just put together a doozy of an open house tour for North Texas homebuyers — their second in the two years they’ve been in the area.

To showcase their most notable Spring inventory, the Dallas office has created a tour of more than 140 homes across Dallas-Fort Worth in all the best neighborhoods, including Midway Hollow, Lakewood, Oak Cliff, East Dallas, Park Cities, Preston Hollow, and Uptown. Add in Plano, Southlake, and Fort Worth, and there’s a little something for everyone in the cleverly designed tour this weekend.

Every single home on this substantial list of lovelies will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 31. And not only that, it’s a great opportunity to meet your local Compass agents.

Want to see some of the amazing homes on Sunday’s tour? Let’s jump! (more…)

HistoricNot every historic home in Dallas meets the wrecking ball — some are lovingly cared for, carefully updated, and enjoying third, fourth, and even fifth lives as new generations of Dallasites back up the moving truck and begin their lives there.

This week, we’d like to show you three open houses, all homes that are at least 75 years old or more, all updated and move in ready for their next family.

Every Thursday, we bring you our pick of the hottest North Texas properties in our CandysDirt.com Open Houses of the Week. Which one will you choose? (more…)

The rooftop deck of this townhome in the Cedars is one of two homes in this week’s roundup of open houses with downtown Dallas views.

BRAND-NEW BELMONT WEST CUTIE

Open house: Dec. 8, 2-4 p.m.

When we asked Coldwell Banker Residential Realtor Alex Prins where he was hanging out this weekend, he pointed us to this new construction west of the Belmont Hotel at 1213 Walmsley Ave.

“This new build is like a dream!” he told us. “Floor the ceiling windows, tons of sunlight, hand-scraped hardwoods, 12-foot ceilings, and so much more!” (more…)

WoodrowEvery Thursday, we bring you our pick of the hottest North Texas properties in our CandysDirt.com Open Houses of the Week. These are the places you don’t want to miss that weekend. And this week, our homes all have one Dallas ISD feeder pattern in common — the Woodrow Wilson High School feeder pattern.

If you’ve never checked out Woodrow Wilson High, you owe it to yourself to investigate, because from academics (it’s an International Baccalaureate school, and routinely gets multiple distinctions from the Texas Education Agency) to fine arts (its band has been featured on the Today show) to athletics, there’s a reason it’s one of the most sought-after of public high schools.

And if you think that’s hyperbole, just wait until a few parents and alumni find this story and take to the comments or Facebook. They’re fiercely proud of this school, and with good reason.

So let’s take a look at the three homes (two zoned for Mockingbird Elementary, another zoned for Geneva Heights) we’ve chosen this week. (more…)

Clifford Hutsell, beloved regional architect, is known for his Lakewood and Highland Park houses. After a visit to Beverly Hills in 1929, he so fell in love with Spanish Colonial revival architecture, he brought it back with him, designing a series of homes with his own exuberant and eccentric take on the style.

One of Hutsell’s Lakewood creations hit the market two days ago and we’re thrilled to feature it in our  CandysDirt.com Open Houses of the Week column. Every Thursday, we bring you an insider’s take on the hot properties you can see that weekend.
