Splurge vs. Steal: Two Houses on the Same Street in Hollywood Heights | CandysDirt.com

Our “splurge” at 823 Clermont St. features a backyard oasis with covered patio and swimming pool.

Splurge vs, Steal is a new feature on CandysDirt.com. Every week, we look at two properties that offer something in common, but are miles apart in their asking price.

As a protected conservation district, Hollywood Heights offers big personality and preserved architectural gems, many from before WWII. This vibrant East Dallas neighborhood is a friendly community of just over 930 homes with close proximity to White Rock Lake and access to the highly rated Lakewood Elementary, appealing to young families.

Today, we’ve found two homes located just a block and a half apart in Hollywood Heights on Clermont Street. Built six years apart — 1930 and 1936 — they sit on a street lined with mature trees. Both are family homes, with three bedrooms, and a short walk to Samuell Grand Park.

 Remodeled Tudor

Our Saturday Eight Hundred is a Hollywood Heights remodeled Tudor at 823 Clermont Street that is absolute perfection. People love this neighborhood because it’s filled with charming homes built in the 1920s and 1930s. It has long been considered to have one of the largest collections of stone-embellished Tudor Revival cottages in America, and it’s one of the first Conservation Districts in Dallas. That means this neighborhood of 750 homes will remain intact, and no one can screw it up. It’s also my neighborhood, so I’m just ever-so-slightly biased. I’ve lived here since 1990, and as much as I love writing about all of our spectacular neighborhoods, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. (more…)

1545 N. Buckner IHOTW

Casa Linda Estates is one of the best-kept secrets in Dallas. It’s a great neighborhood, filled with large homes that have huge backyards and some of the best private schools, including White Rock Montessori, are nearby. You can get to White Rock Lake in minutes and access downtown without getting on a highway. Best of all, it’s still an area where you can get incredible bang for your buck. One of my favorite houses in the area, 1545 N. Bucker Blvd., hit MLS last week for $1.495 million, and frankly that is a steal for this property. (more…)
