If nothing else, this house was the first I saw of eight that did not have taxidermy on the walls. My, are folks around here dedicated to the display of dead animals! Might I suggest that, in addition to de-cluttering your space, it might be a good idea to remove anything deceased before engaging in professional photography? That includes anything nefarious you’ve got going on in the attic or crawl space, too. It just makes for good business.

Fortunately, this Lake Highlands Estates renovation comes taxidermy-free, and delights as a fantastic renovation that boasts a great kitchen and a retreat-like master suite, among other attractive features. With three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms in 3,174 square feet, 10315 Van Dyke Drive is listed by Barbara Arredondo with Clay Stapp and Co. for $705,000.

Midway Hollow home

Midway Hollow is a neighborhood in transition, with a lot of renovations going on among the 2,600 or so houses there. It’s an appealing area in northwest Dallas, with mature trees, affordable homes in several price ranges, nearby shopping, and a healthy, involved crime watch.

Flippers have made their mark among many a Midway Hollow home, and some people are wary of the quality of work offered by them. That may or may not have any basis, but it still causes pause among a few potential homebuyers.

Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred at 3703 Cortez Dr. is not a flip — this beautiful work was done by the owner for herself, says listing agent Barbara Arredondo with Clay Stapp + Co.

“This is such a neat house — it was taken to the studs for a renovation and it sits on a larger corner lot,” Arredondo said. “All of the bedrooms are a big surprise — usually in a home of this era, they are small, but these are not.”

This home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,044 square feet, built in 1951. There’s an open house this Saturday, May 27, from 2-4 p.m. Here’s your sneak peek. (Be sure to check out the “before” photos below for a look at the hot mess this house was before the owner started renovations!)

Some home renovations go halfway, updating a few spots here and there. Today’s Thursday Three Hundred is not that kind of reno.

The owners of the home at 561 Classen Dr. have gone all in, updating and improving the place from stem to stern, and the results are marvelous. It has the clean, finished feel and amenities of a new, custom-build house, with the vintage charm and personality that befits its Lake Highlands Estates location in East Dallas.561 classen exterior beforeOriginally built in 1952, the house was showing its age before—the exterior “before” photo above and several other “before” photos throughout this post give you an idea.

Now, it’s a turnkey property, almost unrecognizable from before, with beautiful details and improvements. You’ll find custom soft-close wood cabinets; a modern, elegant kitchen; recessed lighting; chic light fixtures; a luxe bathroom, low E windows, a new roof, new gutters, new exterior A/C unit, foam insulation in the attic; landscaping, and exterior paint.

With 1,170 square feet, three bedrooms, and one bathroom, it’s a small footprint, and the reno maximizes the space. There’s an open house this Sunday from 2-4 p.m., if you want to check it out yourself after seeing these photos.

Barbara Arredondo with Clay Stapp + Co. recently listed it for $325,000, or $278 per square foot. Nine recent neighborhood comps range from $204,000 to $308,500, or $161 to $229 per square foot. So is this house ambitiously priced? Perhaps. But that’s not without reason. The professional renovations make it one-of-a-kind.

983 Sylvania Front

983 Sylvania was taken to the studs and rebuilt into an LEED Gold masterpiece by D’J Perkison. But how do you find the right buyer for such a unique home? All photos by MetroplexHD.com

There are a few Dallas homes that are so unique that they earn a permanent spot in the bit of our brains exclusively wired for real estate. For me, this Eastwood midcentury modern that was completely re-imagined by architect D’J Perkison is one of those homes. You probably had the distinct pleasure of touring this East Dallas marvel at 983 Sylvania during this year’s White Rock Home Tour and thought, “What a wonderful way to breathe new life into an outdated home!”

And that’s just the reaction Perkison, founder of Studio Perk, was hoping for. When she bought this home with her husband and set upon remodeling it, the goal was to use only the most sustainable materials possible. The results were stunning, of course.
