Dallas has a great deal of available, beautiful new construction. However, much of it looks alike, so it is always refreshing to find something thoughtful and intimate. Those elements generally mean an excellent designer is on board, and for this Santa Barbara-inspired modern Devonshire estate, that designer is Julie Parrent Design Studio.

Working with ICB Custom Builders and Covert & Associates, Parrent drove the forward-thinking design details of this 9,118-square-foot spec home, ensuring that, despite its size, it still felt warm and inviting.

One of the elements I’m personally thrilled to see make a comeback in this home is the use of arches and arch details. A structural arch always softens the aesthetic and frames a view, making each room seem more intimate, which is a hallmark of this home. That intimacy starts at the front door, where Parrent lobbied for an arched entry and barrel-vaulted ceiling. The barrel vaulting continues in the hallway. “We were looking for unique details,” Parrent said. “I found a concept photo about breaking up a long hall that used curved beams, and it was the perfect way to provide interest.”

The arched theme continues throughout the Devonshire estate, with arched kitchen cabinets providing symmetry for the arched entry into the dining room. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open into the wine room, with another arch detail.

“I think arched elements calm the brain,” Parrent said. “A well-designed home feels like a retreat you don’t want to leave.”

The first-floor principal suite includes dual custom closets, a spa-inspired bath, and an infrared sauna. There is also a hidden storm closet behind one of the hallway doors.

“You would never know it’s there unless someone showed it to you,” Parrent said.

One of the details in the principal bathroom that caught my eye is the countertops.

“It’s hard to make a bathroom stand out,” Parrent said. “I try to do something unique with materials that will make them stand out, so the clients feel they are getting something special.”

The home features five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, two powder baths, a gym, a private office, and a first-floor media room, and plenty of areas for family members to find a bit of privacy. The team created special spaces like book nooks and a place to set up the mahjong table in the large Devonshire estate.

Details make the difference, and this Devonshire estate stands apart because of them. JPAR Plano’s Diana Boswell has this Devonshire estate at 5807 Glen Falls available for $9.625 million.
