The 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour

Don’t miss this adorable bungalow on the 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour!

“Never judge a book by its cover.” That adage applies to homes as well. This 1938 Hollywood Heights bungalow at 6915 Santa Monica Drive is an excellent example of why that saying is true. Although the façade has been painted, it doesn’t give a hint about what lies beyond the front door. That’s one of the reasons this amazing home is included in the 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour, coming up April 20-22.

Our Inwood House of the Week is a charming Midway Hollow Hill Country Contemporary at 4040 Davila Drive built for Robert and Jennifer Black in 2008 by Herman Darden Custom Homes.

The Blacks are Midway Hollow pioneers. They bought their first home in the neighborhood 13 years ago.

“It was a 1948 ranch,” Jennifer said. “When we discovered the neighborhood, we loved it immediately. We bought that house and lived in it until our son was about a year and a half old. Then the teardowns started. We knew we were outgrowing the house, we wanted another child, and we knew we did not want to leave Midway Hollow.”

The couple also knew what they did want.

If there’s one thing that the discussion regarding the proposed restaurant at Boy Scout Hill has done it is galvanize a movement to preserve White Rock Lake. I suppose, depending on your viewpoint, this could be both positive and negative, as preservation often means ex-nay on any kind of development (or even re-development, for that matter).

Which brings us to one of the most interesting structures going up around the lake right now, the modern shipping container home on Peavy Road in Old Lake Highlands called PV14. The home, designed by M Gooden Design and constructed by Herman Darden Custom Homes, has sweeping views of White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas, thanks to its unique build and rooftop deck. This is definitely one of those homes that will be featured on the White Rock Home Tour when it’s done.
