Say you’ve always dreamed about living in one of those iconic loft buildings that Deep Ellum and the Farmers Market area are just littered with (our favorite is 2220 Canton St.), but after a marriage and a kid, and maybe a dog or two, you’ve outgrown your urban life. It’s time to move to the suburbs.

Or is it? Can you retain your street cred and live in a posh neighborhood like Lakewood? Actually, with our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans, you can.

“The architecture is sleek and contemporary with an open floor plan, yet the rooms still have definition,” says Robert Kucharski, the David Griffin & Company Realtor listing the Lakewood modern at 6420 Kenwood Dr. “The quality of the materials used to build the home are superior to most others.”

That’s a high compliment for builder Marlon McMakin with Modern Custom Homes. The house was completed in 2015, and still looks just as fabulous as the day it was built.

It wasn’t too long ago when our own columnist Jon Anderson lamented the homogeneity of our traditional architecture, which runs profligate in North Texas suburbs. A hodge-podge of styles with features plucked from the comfort food of American residential architecture, Anderson wondered why we couldn’t simply bring back a modern aesthetic to newly built residential architecture.

Well, we can, and we have. That’s evident in our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. This 2013-built modern at 5403 Bradford Drive takes a cue from midcentury modern design, but strikes out on its own with unique materials, bold colors, and a spacious, open floor plan that astounds. It’s a fabulous listing in the Oak Lawn Heights (near the Medical District) neighborhood.

“The home so appropriately represents midcentury modern architecture that many people think it is an older home that has been renovated,” said listing agent Don Neilson of David Griffin & Company Realtors.

It’s hard to be a host in summer, especially with the Texas heat bearing down on you. That’s why, more often than not, summer parties are centered around the pool. That is, if you have one.

But it takes more than that — you need a good floor plan with plenty of space between bedrooms and common areas, a capable kitchen, and a good transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Luckily for you, David Griffin & Company’s Sam Claussen has just one such listing located inside the coveted M Streets. It’s an adorable brick-and-stone storybook M Streets Tudor, and it’s the perfect High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans — especially if you like to entertain during the hotter months.

I may be in the minority on this view, but it thrills me to see beautiful, well-done, modern and contemporary homes dotting the landscapes that are awash in old ranches and clapboard homes. It adds texture to a neighborhood, showing how our collective tastes have evolved over time. Of course, North Oak Cliff has just recently become Ground Zero for new construction, with East Kessler becoming a hot spot for well-known architects. Our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans is one such high-style home with a fantastic architectural pedigree.

We’ve already profiled several units inside this converted Farmers Market loft building, which might be the best example of such a building that Dallas has to offer. But this second-floor unit at 2220 Canton, No. 209, might just be my favorite. I love the layout — almost completely open save for a privacy wall blocking the view of the bedroom area from the living area. Everything else is just picture perfect, and the light, with windows that just skim the treetops, is sublime.

It has all the makings of a High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. If this looks to be the lofty urban paradise you’ve always dreamed of, call Lisa today to get the right loan so you can move in and start the new year off right.

Let’s take a closer look inside this great building and gorgeous unit …

It’s the stuff HGTV series are made of, and considering the runaway success of Flip or Flop Fort Worth, we have to wonder if Daniel and Stesha Gearner are the next wedded pair to take on the mantle of the popular real estate reality series.

With an unapologetically hipster aesthetic, the Gearners infused trendy style in this White Rock Forest home. Once a tired ranch, the couple breathed new life into this midcentury ranch, to great aplomb. Truly, 8715 Fawn Drive is perfect for a family of little deer, and therefore an easy choice for our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. It’s another fantastic East Dallas listing from David Collier and Jennifer Rice of David Griffin & Company.
