Val Fenwick, the Virginia Cook agent marketing 10421 Shadow Bend Drive, says this contemporary home in Crest Meadow Estates is “better than new.” To tell you the truth, I often take the little narrative that accompanies most listings with a grain of salt. However, with this home, I couldn’t agree with Val more!

Everything inside and out of 10421 Shadow Bend has been gutted and updated, from the hardwood floors to the lighting, plumbing and electrical, so you can get that new home feel without building from the ground-up in the suburbs. The price is pretty competitive, too, at $365,000 — just reduced by $15,000 in the past week.

The dramatic floor-to-ceiling Travertine fireplace sets the mood for the rest of the home, and it doesn’t disappoint, and the dining room, which flows seamlessly into the kitchen, features a built-in sideboard perfect for stowing away and showing off your finest china and barware.

I doubt the kitchen has had any use at all, from the looks of it. The sleek cabinets and well-thought-out island is begging for a cook with culinary aspirations, though!

The master suite is huge, and like most of the house, it’s flooded with natural light. The master bathroom, which is on the ground floor, has one of the coolest upgrades in the entire house — a heated floor!

While there’s no pool, there’s certainly room to add a small one, and then this home in North Dallas will be 100 percent perfect and practically brand new!

Seriously, this house could be a set for 2001: A Space Odyssey! Everything is white, white, white, and there’s a “reading tube” that reminds me of several scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, but this one particularly strikes a chord!

The home, 16919 Brushfield Dr., was built in 1979, and Kubrick’s 2001 hit theaters in 1968, so it’s doubtful that the architect was inspired by the film. Still, this house is so cool! I love the sunken living room, which is super common for the era. But what sells this house is the natural light. Because there are practically no walls and some cool floor-to-ceiling windows, there is tons of it. You’ll hardly need to flick a switch with all of the windows.

There are three bedrooms (four if you don’t want an office downstairs) and three baths in this 3,185-square-foot home marketed by Peggy Millheiser of Dave Perry-Miller. It’s located in a neighborhood we don’t often feature, too: Tioga East. I guess at $289,000 you’re paying for style and schools, which are Richardson ISD.

Yes, the master bath is a little, um, weird, but don’t let that discourage you! There’s plenty more fabulousness throughout the home!

Other things I love about this house: The covered rear patio, the spiral staircase, and the fact that it’s on a cul-de-sac. This might be the perfect house for a family with a couple of starchildren (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh wait, that wasn’t a very good joke …)

This uptown home, owned by a very well-known interior designer, is on the market for $395,000.

It’s funny how, just like their owners, houses have distinct personalities. I imagine some as refined Scotch drinkers who both have and are acquired tastes. Some are classics, some are works of art, and some are better off seeing the business end of a wrecking ball.

And some, well, they take your breath away like a gorgeous gal in a trendy sportscar. That’s 2712 Throckmorton, which is marketed by David Griffin himself! With all of the angles, textures, and colors, this home will get your engine running!

As I understand it, this unit is one of six designed by architect Ed Baum. Not only are the homes stunning, but they have an award-winning pedigree, too. Besides being recognized by the American Institute of Architecture, “These homes have been published (including a feature story in DWELL magazine) and have received most positive attention in the press for their innovative and forward thinking urban design,” the listing says.

This two-bedroom, two-bath unit is centered around a gorgeous courtyard. Large floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area and one of the bedrooms look in on the outdoor space, which would be perfect for entertaining.

Everything about this house is tres chic and super sleek, from the kitchen with bamboo and stainless, to the painted beam ceiling, even to the hallway, which, with huge bookshelves, is perfect for any bibliophile.

This is Uptown, though, and with all this space (more than 1,600 square feet, if you’re keeping track!), expect to fork over some dough. With this home, you really do pay for location, and this location doesn’t disappoint, clocking in at more than $236 per square foot!

Of course, it’s a great spot, smack dab between the Tollway and Oak Lawn. You get accessibility and culture (and nightlife!) and a really sexy house!
