Amon Carter didn’t actually christen Fort Worth as the place “where the west begins”  — it was a visiting mayor from the small town of Munday who came up with the moniker that Carter placed on the front page of his newspaper, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where it has remained to this day.

West certainly seems to be the direction Fort Worth is marching — think Montserrat and Mira Vista, all built on former ranch land. And then there is Walsh Ranch. We’ve been watching Walsh from the beginning. Barely more than one years old, with Phase 1 still to be completed, I thought it was worth another look.

And Walsh Ranch has to be seen to be believed. Vast, over eleven square miles, straddling two counties, Walsh seems like remote, rolling country, though (as has been frequently noted) it is a straight 15 minute shot on the West Freeway, (aka Interstate Highway 30) from downtown.

Eventually, over 50,000 people are expected to live here requiring substantial infrastructure building, including the rather beautiful Westside Water Treatment Plant which I toured. Aledo schools are an additional draw though 12 more schools are slated for construction. (more…)

News Flash: Life happens.  As a real estate sales professional, when a buyer tells me they’re looking for their “Forever Home” I smile and nod, but inside I know life happens … even in Walsh.

Buyers of all ages, sizes, price points all want (or think they want) that perfect home that meets their needs, and where they’ll live for a long time.  Then, yep, life happens.  Households grow, shrink, age, get transferred, make less money, make more money, or just want something different.

Walsh is now home to Fort Worth’s newest makerspace. The Walsh Makerspace, located in the heart of the growing 7,200-acre neighborhood in west Fort Worth, is the first of its kind to be built from the ground up around a new development, and is available to residents and the public.

The Makerspace at Walsh

A new word is circling the globe.  Well, maybe it’s not a new word but it’s certainly one that you’re going to hear more and more as it pertains to real estate and development.  The word is “makerspace.”

Also known as “hackerspace,” “hacklab,” or “metalabs,” a makerspace is a collection of people with similar interests that congregate in a collaborative work space to make things, share ideas and foster education.

It’s a club with membership based on a common interest.

Walsh Ranch Parkway will forever change the face of West Fort Worth

One Spring Break when I was a frustrated teenager, I went to spend a few days with my cool Uncle Tony in Dallas.  He was (and still is) a real mover-and-shaker and was a blast to hang out with.  I’ll never forget what he would constantly pound into my brain when we would talk about life and future: “Accept and expect change.”

Those words have stayed with me even now as a frustrated 40-something. Accept and expect change. Are there truer words than these?

The city of Fort Worth is about to meet change head-on.  Soon, Walsh Ranch is expected to be open for business, and that means major changes are about to happen to West Fort Worth.
