Remodeled Tudor

Our Saturday Eight Hundred is a Hollywood Heights remodeled Tudor at 823 Clermont Street that is absolute perfection. People love this neighborhood because it’s filled with charming homes built in the 1920s and 1930s. It has long been considered to have one of the largest collections of stone-embellished Tudor Revival cottages in America, and it’s one of the first Conservation Districts in Dallas. That means this neighborhood of 750 homes will remain intact, and no one can screw it up. It’s also my neighborhood, so I’m just ever-so-slightly biased. I’ve lived here since 1990, and as much as I love writing about all of our spectacular neighborhoods, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. (more…)

Lakewood Heights Craftsman 6334 Velasco 1

We’ve been telling you the Dallas real estate market is hotter than ever. Don’t believe anyone that says it’s slowing down. It’s not.

Our Saturday Eight Hundred is a fantastic Lakewood Heights Craftsman at 6334 Velasco Ave. that proves our point. Scott Carlson and Patrick Bukowitz with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s listed this three-story, 3,855-square-foot stunner on Friday. It went to contract Monday.

Of course, it is a spectacular home so we’d expect it to move pretty quickly, but this was a lightning-fast sale.

Mockingbird Park 3910 Fairfax facadeMockingbird Park is a great little neighborhood adjacent to West Highland Park and south of Greenway Parks. It’s friendly, safe, walkable, and convenient to just about everything, including Love Field and the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Our Saturday Eight Hundred is right in the heart of Mockingbird Park. It’s a charming, peaceful, light-filled, 2,218-square-foot cottage at 3910 Fairfax Avenue that was just listed by the Hickman Weber Group at Ebby Halliday for $835,000, and we’ll be surprised if it’s still around by this time next week. Lakewood Heights Contemporary Craftsman 6111 Lakeshore Drive

East Dallas neighborhoods can get confusing. Consider Lakewood. You have Lakewood proper, Lakewood Hills, and Lakewood Heights. Add to that the apartment communities of Lakewood Flats and Lakewood Greens. While they may all share a first name, getting that last name wrong is like being referred to as the first husband’s wife, when husband number three is manning the backyard grill. No one wants to make that mistake. So, we’re going to clarify exactly where Lakewood Heights is located, and exactly what’s so special about this neighborhood, because our Saturday Eight Hundred is a Lakewood Heights contemporary craftsman cottage that is a brand-new David Weekley custom build at 6111 Lakeshore Drive. It not only pays homage to the character of the neighborhood, but it’s also staged to perfection — and you know how much that means to this particular staffer. (more…)

3603 Asbury Street
How’d you like to get into a Park Cities traditional home for under a million? Well, today’s your lucky day. Molly Hurt with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s just listed 3603 Asbury for $829,000.

This is a real gem of a home. Lisa Luby Ryan, the extremely talented designer and principal with Luby Design Associates— who also owns the wonderful home furnishings boutique, Vintage Living, took it down to the studs for her friend, Lucy Johnson. Johnson is also a realtor with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s. Take that in for a moment: two women, who each know a great deal about houses, working together. It’s a given that no detail was overlooked, and the result is not only something spectacular but completely unexpected. That is, it’s unexpected to the passerby or anyone driving up because you cannot possibly imagine what has transpired behind that front door.

And it’s a perfect example of why you can’t judge a book by its cover.
