My love of historic houses runs deep. It’s barely surpassed by my love of dark chocolate and great wine. Our Inwood National Bank House of the Week is one of my all-time favorites, and it has quite a history.

In 2003 The Parks Estate, a historic Spanish Mission-style home at 6220 Worth Avenue, hit the Preservation Dallas list of endangered properties. My heart skipped a beat. I live nearby, and this house is not just a stately home, it’s an East Dallas icon. The Parks Estate has had many incarnations, including a stint on HGTV’s House Hunters several years ago. It’s finally for sale again. If I could buy it, I would.

Mockingbird Park

Our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week is a surprising find on many levels. This Mockingbird Park Ranch at 3915 Fairley Lane looks like a charming little cottage. It’s so much more. It’s certainly not little. It’s also not a cookie-cutter house. This ranch is full of character, light, and sits on one of the largest, unique lots in the neighborhood on a dedicated block. That’s right; there is only one house on Fairley Lane.

Character — it’s what is missing in so many homes today. Sure, we love Agreeable Gray walls with white trim. You cannot go wrong with those choices, but if you want to create a bit of character, color helps.  When we spotted this Preston Hollow family compound at 5134 Kelsey Road with some bold color statements, we were smitten. After all, when you’re trying to sell a house, you want potential buyers to remember it, and they will remember this one. It’s not only filled with character and color, but it’s  also tasteful, stylish, completely updated, and move-in ready. Even at $2.65 million, we see this one moving fast. (more…)

Our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week began as a sketch on a napkin. Mark Siepiela, an extraordinarily talented custom home builder and owner of Design + Development, is responsible for turning that sketch into this Bluffview modern luxury home at 4346 Bluffview Boulevard.

Siepiela and the owner were on the same page from that inspirational napkin design.

“I had a great client to work with that had a good imagination and was receptive to my input,” Siepiela said. “We both have the same tastes, and to be able to build something that is my taste is always a joy.” (more…)
