Highland ParkIt can be a gamble, buying an older home. Sometimes they’ve been updated and the price reflects that, and other times they are in desperate need of love. Neither is the case with this week’s Inwood Home of the Week, a 1950s Mediterranean in West Highland Park with curb appeal for days and bright, airy finishes throughout the interior.

Bright pops of color punctuate the walk up to the home thanks to the red planters and door. Since the home is on Mockingbird Lane, a circular drive will come in handy for quick entry onto the usually busy road.

Inside the four-bedroom, four-bath home located at 4669 Mockingbird Lane, care has clearly been taken to consider both aesthetics and function. (more…)

Ask any home buyer these days and they’ll tell you that one of the biggest asks in their property wishlist is low-maintenance living. This is especially true of households that are downsizing from larger family homes and empty nesters. The solution? The patio home, and this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans is a perfect example of high-style, low-maintenance living in an absolutely enviable location.

Traditional features updated for today’s lifestyle.

Deals in Highland Park don’t come around that often. This beauty in West Highland Park is a variation on the theme.

Stylishly renovated (she was taken down to the studs) and updated, this traditional home, original to the neighborhood, beckons a young family or empty nesters who want a pool and yard. Here’s the catch: Park Cities schools aren’t part of the deal in West Highland Park (west of the Dallas North Tollway). Schools are in Dallas Independent School District.

“This is a very desirable location for young families committed to private schools,” says Realtor Susan Baldwin, of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, who is listing 4633 Edmondson with her teammate Ginger Nobles.

And while you may not have the benefit of HPISD, you do get the excellent police coverage and the walking proximity of Highland Park Village as well as the Whole Foods down on Lomo Alto.

For young professionals that don’t want a high-rise lifestyle and are not ready to spend a million on a home, it’s a perfect location.

3715 Miles St.

3715 Miles St.

I sold my beloved home in May and have been keeping my eyes peeled for little cottage with a yard where my baby, pets, and I could call home. My eyes are still peeled – as I’m sure you’re aware, it’s a crazy market with limited inventory and high prices. However, I did come across this little gem with the help of a friend with an eye and impeccable taste.

Listed at $400,000, it’s above my limit for a fixer-upper at this point, but my oh my the visions I have for this sweet cottage.

3715 Miles St. is located on the edge of West Highland Park. Well, maybe more like off Lemmon Ave. It’s being sold as a tear down with the value in the land, as new houses and multi-family living are going up around it. But it hurts my heart to think of this precious cottage being torn down. (more…)
