Constantly at the top of the region’s best builders list, and a CandysDirt.com Approved Builder, Tatum Brown Custom Homes are known for their quality and longevity. Founder Mark Danuser works hard to bring great design, excellent materials, and top-notch workmanship to his customers, which are some of the most fiercely loyal in the industry.

Danuser, who has built homes for the creme de la creme of North Texas, knows how to build a home that will capitalize on the latest technology while still producing the timeless structures for which his brand is known. We asked Mark to tell us what prospective custom home clients will see as emerging home building trends in 2014.

“Clients are moving toward a fully functional home – one that works for the way they live every day and for how they entertain,” Danuser said. “Formal living rooms are still on floor plans, but they’re becoming a useable space – often more open to other areas of the home.”

Besides creating multi-functional spaces, decor will have to become more flexible, too, and perhaps even more casual to allow for spaces that serve as hubs for guests.

“We’ve seen a lot of clients move away from the traditional home theater rooms as well, preferring to have multi-use spaces suitable for entertaining and televisions in all common areas, including outdoors,” Danuser added.

While we were seeing the grand double-staircase foyer as a huge trend just a few years ago, Danuser believes homeowners will forego these impact-making additions and choosing to focus space and resources toward the living and entertaining areas.

“Recently, we’ve done several homes with staircases located away from the front entry or homes with a single staircase,” Danuser said. “Our clients are getting more creative with the stair railings as well – cantilevered stairs, mixtures of materials like glass and iron, interesting railing designs, etc.”

And more homeowners are choosing to simplify when it comes to design, too. Danuser says that clean, simple lines continue to dominate. “We’ve seen a big push for all things natural and lighter – from raw beams on the ceiling to sealed-only wood floors with no stain,” he said.

And homes that are easy to care for are a big trend, too, as low-maintenance materials and finishes are coming back in a big way. “Where the trend was all marble for many years, our clients are now asking for materials like quartz that don’t require constant upkeep,” Danuser said. “This is especially true in kitchens.”

That’s excellent news, especially as homebuyers are looking for well-constructed homes that will look brand new for years to come.

Do you have your coffee yet? Good, because this house is like a beignet from Cafe Du Monde. This house, it just makes me want to say “Ahhhhhhhh!” It’s 3625 Bryn Mawr, marketed by the gorgeous and talented Kari Schlegel Kloewer of Allie Beth Allman & Associates, and it was just completed by the experts at Tatum Brown Custom Homes.

If you want high-end finish-out and tons of extras, Tatum Brown is the go-to builder. In fact, this company is on our short list of Hot Builders!

Just from glancing around, you can see why we love Tatum Brown, too! I mean, look at the thoughtful entrance that keeps with the elegant and modern Santa Barbara style. It’s beautiful, but not too ostentatious. This home, desiged by Stocker, Hoestry, Montenegro Architects, is like a hot brunette in a little black dress!

This University Park home has all of the upgrades and add-ons you want inside its 6,651 square feet. You get impeccable hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, luxury light fixtures with some really killer chandeliers, marble, granite, and a wet bar. WHEW. That’s a lot!

There are five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, along with three living spaces, two dining rooms, a game or media room, a mud room, and some of the best schools in the state.

I love a kitchen that is open and accessible, and this one is just that! The huge island is perfect for entertaining. Imagine the marble expanse covered in cheese boards and fruit plates, with a bucket of chilled champagne and orange juice just waiting for brunch guests to arrive!

Of course, there’s tons of stainless in the kitchen, and there’s some really beautiful tile in the backsplash, too!

From what I hear, it’s almost impossible to buy new construction in the Park Cities without buying a teardown first, razing the structure, and starting fresh from there. If you get exhausted just thinking about all that work, well, this lovely home is for you!

It’s on the market at a great price, too. I think $2.95 million is a fair asking for such a spacious, modern, and well-thought-out home. What do you think?

When I first met Mark Danuser YEARS ago, I had never met a man so obsessed with home building. He showed me an incredible project on one of Highland Park’s most coveted streets with no less than seven fireplaces, each more beautiful than the next. We spent hours going over the details that helped make the home so spectacular: pastry kitchen, outdoor living room, media room, and a master bath to end all master baths. I was so impressed with his work and knew right then that Mark would go on to become one of Dallas’ top builders. That home, by the way, was snapped up by a well-known Dallas family the following week.

Tatum Brown Custom Homes is one of the finest boutique homebuilders in Dallas, specializing in premium residences for both private homeowners and speculative projects. They have built for some of the most discriminating folks in town. Quite simply, they help home dreams come true by meticulous investigation of client needs and lifestyle before one room goes on blueprint.

Tatum Brown brings creativity, authenticity, superior craftsmanship, planning and design services to the art of home building. Mark Danuser is committed to maintaining communication with each client, and the company develops a personalized website for each client that allows homeowners to watch every step of the construction process. He also personally supervises every home, and is more than committed to maintaining the integrity of every Dallas neighborhood Tatum Brown builds in.

“The entire process, from specification development, through construction, and punch list remediation all went seamlessly. Mark’s primary objective is customer satisfaction. Working with Tatum Brown is as good as it gets.” – George Tamke, Homeowner

Whether the home is a Park Cities masterpiece, a sleek Preston Hollow remodel or new construction project in Vaquero, every Tatum Brown home is superbly tailored to each customer’s lifestyle and desires. That’s why Dallas Realtors love to list Tatum Brown homes, and why no Tatum Brown creation ever, ever mimics a previous house.

“The greatest compliment to me is to have my homes reflect the personality and spirit of the homeowners so much that it’s really an extension of their family,” says Mark Danuser.

“Our homes stand out from the rest, but do not stick out in the neighborhoods where we build.  At the end of the day, we want our clients to be proud to call a Tatum Brown house their home, that’s our legacy.”

Long Cove townhomes

Back in March we told you about Long Cove’s newest luxury lakefront neighborhood, Henderson Bay, and now we’ve got complete details about the sleek new townhomes being built there by Robert Elliott Custom Homes, starting from $695,000.

Since the beginning, we’ve followed Don McNamara’s Long Cove development as it’s become a sprawling 1,000-acre second-home haven and a go-to weekend spot for many in the Metroplex. Long Cove, located on the clear, deep end of Cedar Creek Reservoir, was inspired by getaways like those of the Seaside and Watercolor communities in Florida.

But this new 40-acre private and protected cove will feature sandy beach volleyball, a slide into the lake, lakeside fire pits, shared play fields, and rolling lawns. Plus there’s an amphitheater large enough to host an orchestra for outdoor concerts.

The contemporary two-story Long Cove townhomes have two different floor plans to choose from: a two-bedroom, three-bath interior lot home that has 2,422 square-feet or a three-bedroom, five-bath corner lot home that has an impressive 3,198 square-feet. In total, there will be only eight townhomes built. (more…)
