It is not enough that the hotly contested District 13 City Council race between Laura Miller and Jennifer Staubach Gates has frozen forward progress Behind the Pink Wall, keeping victims of the Preston Place fire in limbo as to their financial future. Now it could also stymie new home development in Northwest Dallas.

About 4.4 acres of land at 10210 Webb Chapel Road once belonged to Mi Escualita Preschool. The property has sat vacant for at least six and a half years, but was recently was purchased by developer David Gleeson with hopes to build detached single-family homes on the land with a large national homebuilder such as David Weekley Homes. The homes, perfect for downsizing Baby Boomers, will be approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet in size, with prices ranging from $375,000 to $475,000.

And Gleeson has followed city protocol in order to obtain zoning for the new homes, which he says will add value to the neighborhood. And though he has talked to them, as well as other builders, the development is not a David Weekley Homes project at this point.

Still, Laura Miller included the development as No. 8 on her “Top 10” reasons of why Jennifer Gates won’t debate her (there have been at least 3 debates) and why District 13 residents should vote her in and incumbent Gates out. Miller also included the proposed development in her Dallas Morning News Voter profile.

The contemporary home at 11322 E. Ricks Circle will be on this year’s Northaven Home Tour.

The Northaven Home Tour returns for another year, this time featuring a treasure trove of thoughtfully remodeled ranches and a contemporary design you’ll find rather familiar. Slated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, the third annual Northaven Home Tour features six gorgeous properties, including the home of Dallas City Council District 11 representative Lee Kleinman, as well as a Frank Welch-designed stunner on Churchill Way.

The tour, sponsored by Bernbaum/Magadini Architects, Advocate Magazine, Renees Saulnier, The Miller Group, and the Hillcrest Forest Neighborhood Association (HFNA), benefits Kramer Elementary School’s PTA. Tickets are available to purchase online in advance for $20, or at Kramer Elementary (7131 Midbury) on the day of the tour.

“The Hillcrest Forest home tour was originally a small neighborhood event open only to residents in the Janmar area,” said home tour organizer Pete Peabody. “Three years ago, the Kramer PTA took over the tour and opened it up to the public, renaming it the Northaven Home Tour. It quickly has become our largest fundraiser. That very first year, we raised enough to allow us to fund the removal of a badly deteriorated blacktop and install a brand new sports court outside the gymnasium.”

Find out about three special homes on the tour after the jump!

While the Northaven Home Tour is an amazing opportunity to see some of the finest homes in a historic Dallas neighborhood, organizers say it’s also a great opportunity to work with the school it benefits — Kramer Elementary School.

The tour, which will be held April 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with special remarks by Katherine Seale, chairperson of the Dallas Landmark Commission at 9:30 a.m. at the Kramer Auditorium at 7131 Midbury Road, features six exquisite homes. The tour is presented by the Kramer Elementary PTA.

Kramer students have been spending the weeks leading up to the tour learning more about the homes on it, as well as some history of the neighborhood. For instance, Kramer fifth graders created drawings depicting neighborhood homes, using a broad selection of recent photographs for inspiration.  Their artwork will be displayed at the home tour.

This home at 7405 Kenshire is one of five homes featured in next month’s Northaven Home Tour, benefiting the Arthur Kramer Elementary PTA.

There are so many great schools in great Dallas neighborhoods, and one of my favorite school/neighborhood combinations is the basis for the second annual Northaven Home Tour, which benefits Arthur Kramer Elementary PTA.

The tour features five homes in the neighborhoods around Kramer, gorgeous homes that were built in the 1950s and 1960s and now sit among big, treed lots and gentle hills. Each home showcases how homes built 50 and 60 years ago can be preserved and renovated, and how new homes can, with thoughtful and deliberate planning, mesh with existing homes peacefully. (more…)

Airbnb

This Northaven Park home has become a bone of contention between the property owner and the neighbors nearby, who say the property owner has rented it out as a party house.

Some Northaven Park homeowners are pretty peeved about a house they say has become a party house on Airbnb. But what really chapped their hides was what happened last weekend — a nekkid photo shoot around the pool.

As a Southern girl from way back, I learned the difference between “naked” and “nekkid.” Naked, you see, is when you don’t have clothes on. Nekkid is when you’re naked and up to something.

And Northaven Park neighbors say the company, Arsenic.TV, was definitely up to something – and those neighbors reached out to me this week about it.

(Note: After the jump, there are some photos depicting nudity or partial nudity. Angle your phone or computer away from small children and those easily offended by black bars over naked people and continue reading.)

It’s time for another ticket give-away! This time, we’ve got two pair of tickets to this weekend’s Northaven Home Tour. The first two correct answers (in the comments below) to either question win! Hint: look for answers on the tour’s Facebook page.

Question One:

What is the exact street address for Arthur Kramer Elementary? It also happens to be the location for the tour’s check-in at 9:30 a.m.

Question Two:

How many Texas Education Agency distinctions did Kramer Elementary earn in 2016?

The school serves a very diverse population and offers amazing International Baccalaureate and dual language programs. Proceeds from the tour will directly benefit some much-needed campus improvements, technology, and crucial programs. Plus, we get to show off some really incredible homes.”

From a classic ranch style to a midcentury modern, the homes on the tour offer a wealth of stunning architectural experiences and an array of artwork that befits a museum exhibit. 5505 Northaven Front

When I see a home that is priced to sell in a great neighborhood, I’m constantly asking myself “What’s the catch?” OK, sure, there are beautiful floors and lovely landscaping, but what’s the catch? Where is the bottom going to fall out?

This home, though, is in a wonderful neighborhood with mature trees and sparkling front yards and is in impeccable shape for being built in 1974. While it’s been updated here and there, the construction is quality and the interiors are clean as a whistle. It’s a home that is great for someone who has an eye on just a few updates and wants a home with solid bones and a huge lot.

Trust me: When you see this house, you might want to have your checkbook handy. No better way to get the ball rolling than to make sure you’re ready to put in your highest and best offer by calling Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans. She can make sure you get the right loan for your dream home, so don’t hesitate to call her today.

Take a look at these timeless interiors after the jump.
