lawndaleIf you find an adorable Austin stone-clad home in Dallas that maintains the charm of its 1941 roots from the curb to the interior, but also embraces the open-floor plan sensibilities of modern living, there’s a good chance you are on Lawndale Drive.

The rock-clad slices of city coziness that line this street have caught our eyes over at CandysDirt.com a few times, in fact.

Located at 2214 Lawndale Dr., our Thursday Three Hundred has the ubiquitous rock facade, punctuated by a bright turquoise door.

Inside, an open floor plan flows from a living area to a dining area to a large, open gourmet kitchen with gas cooktop, double ovens, granite counters, and plenty of space for cooking. Every single room benefits from large windows that let in light and make this 1,884 square foot home feel even more spacious. (more…)

Stevens Park Village

Graceful, stylish living claims its space as our Thursday Three Hundred, a 1941 stone cottage in North Oak Cliff’s Stevens Park Village.

Sitting on an elevated lot, the property at 2311 Lawndale Dr. is one of the original houses in the area. It retains an authentic feel of that era with its architectural details and some vintage features. But the owners’ recent renovations brought it up to date and created the kind of features that make buyers speed-dial their Realtor. Think marble hexagon tile in the guest bathroom, rich cabinetry in the kitchen (and plenty of it), and refinished original hardwoods.

“There’s a very nice layout and for the size of the house, you’re getting a lot of openness,” said listing agent Ged Dipprey with Dave Perry-Miller Intown. “There’s great flow from living to dining room with an original arch that opens into the kitchen.”

The marriage between original and updated is flawless in this two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage. Its 1,544 square feet are indeed well appointed and create the perception of much more space.

937-kessler-pkwy-dallas-tx-MLS-1a

Once an ugly and haphazard midcentury traditional, the homeowners took on the task of transforming this 937 Kessler Parkway into a stunning modern.

Oak Cliff is huge, diverse, and grand, and somehow the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League manages to paint such a sterling snapshot of the area with its fall home tour. The 42nd Annual Oak Cliff Fall Home Tour is no exception. The oldest and largest home tour in Dallas, the OOCCL Fall Home Tour is the league’s sole annual fundraiser that helps fill the coffers of the organization that gives out grants to neighborhoods and non-profits throughout this bustling burg.

With 10 homes and a spectacular bonus home, OOCCL might break last year’s fundraising record of $40,000. Why? Because it offers a glimpse inside the Bill Booziotis-designed home of Mary McDermott Cook.

1942 Malone2

Candy and I have toured this incredible home, and trust us: Go ahead and throw down that extra 10-spot so you can see inside 1942 Malone Cliff View. It’s so worth it. Technically, this incredible feat of modern architecture with some of the most unbelievable sweeping views of downtown is in West Dallas, not Oak Cliff. But we don’t care. We’re thrilled that more people will have the opportunity to see how amazing this limestone, glass, and concrete marvel is.

Jump to see more of the homes on this year’s Old Oak Cliff Conservation League Fall Home Tour, from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18, and how you can purchase tickets.
