In 1926 a stately Georgian Revival brick home was built for Fred W. Wimberly in the Fairmount neighborhood of Fort Worth. The Wimberly House at 2201 Lipscomb Street consists of  3,890 square feet, five bedrooms, three-and-one-half bathrooms and is currently on the market.  The home also has original hardwood floors upstairs-and-downstairs.

The kitchen has been updated since 1926

Not only is this stunning red brick home, found on the corner of Lipscomb Street and Lilac Street, available, but it features a one-bedroom garage apartment as well. Known as the Wimberly House, 2201 Lipscomb Street was officially registered with the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Dining Room Made for Turkey Day

As this is Thanksgiving Holiday Week, I wanted to highlight the large dining room of the home.

French doors access kitchen

You can seat all friends and family around the large table in the dining room of the Wimberly House

Whether you are having family or friends over for large amounts of Tryptophan and box wine or just a candle-lit meal for two, this is just the place.

You Know I Love Front Porches

If you have followed my Tarrant County Tuesday posts over the years, you know that I love, love, love to feature inviting front porches.

The inviting front porch of The Wimberly House is HUGE and so useful

This historic home is no exception.  In fact, this might be the largest front porch I’ve written about.  It’s so sad that today’s builders can’t or won’t build front porches that are usable and practical.

If front porches aren’t your thing, the flagstone patio between the garage and main home is perfect for gatherings and cookouts.

There is even a little koi pond as well

Not to be outdone, the patio between home and garage/apartment is also a wonderful spot to grill, relax, and enjoy

Detached Garage Apartment

Finally, you need to check out the one-bedroom apartment over the detached garage.  In the Fairmount District there should be plenty of opportunity to utilize this space.  It has a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom.

The Wimberly House at 2201 Lipscomb Street is listed for $590,000 by Donna Galvan of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

Well that’s all from Tarrant County this week, Dirty Readers. Remember, if you have comments, questions, or ideas for future stories – I’m always here to listen!  Bring it.

I’m feeling this Fairmount District Georgian Revival beauty in a religious way! Although more provincial than academic in proportion, the living room three-part Palladian window amiably nods to the Palladian bookcase opposite, and the Georgian Revival blue is a period-rich congruent choice. The light and bright colonial yellow breakfast room will delight during winter mornings, the beadboard, chandeliered, and sconced bath is charming, and original built-in storage throughout is most thoughtfully designed and executed. I’d fill the shelves with priceless first editions, partially cover the restored hardwood floors with priceless oriental Rug Doctor-worthy reproductions, enhance the gardens, and ensure that the front porch swing supports my zaftig figure!
