What a Racquet! This Unique Arlington Contemporary is a Midcities Gem

4904 Racquet Deck

I might have found the home that could get me to move to Arlington.

Most of the time, the only way you can get me to go west of Oak Cliff is for Texas Rangers baseball. In fact, I was just there for Opening Day on Monday, and I was reminded then of how close it actually is to Dallas. And while many people pooh-pooh Arlington and Grand Prairie, it’s hard to deny the attractiveness of a freshly remodeled 1970s contemporary on a private lake listed for — are you sitting down? – $595,000!

I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but it would take A LOT for this 12-year Dallasite to leave her comfy corner near White Rock Lake. I’m a big fan of 1970s contemporary architecture, and I am loving this recent trend of updating these homes in a more transitional scheme.

The bonus to this home, other than not being stuck in gameday traffic headed back to Dallas after the Rangers game, is that the lot backs up to a stunning private lake. The immense deck and L-shaped balcony that wrap the rear of 4904 Racquet Club Dr. in Wimbledon Addition take advantage of the views of the lake, and inside you’ll find plenty of natural light from the vaulted ceiling’s skylights and huge picture windows throughout. It’s listed with Re/Max Pinnacle Group Realtors for $595,000 and the HOA fees are $1,100 annually.

I love that the sellers left the original open-concept floor plan and didn’t paint the fireplace. That’s one of my main gripe with flips, that in the course of freshening all of the surfaces, they make the terrible mistake of painting fireplaces. DON’T DO IT, FOLKS!

The iron baluster staircase leads to a catwalk overlooking the living room, which sports that gorgeous vaulted ceiling and a huge floor-to-ceiling fireplace. The exposed beams are fantastic, and I love the look of this room so much that I’m already arranging furniture in my head.

That space leads to a breakfast room with a bay window that overlooks the deck — a spot that will enamor any birdwatcher. In the kitchen you’ll find white shaker-style cabinets and stainless steel appliances, which includes a six-burner gas range and vent hood. I love that the hardwood floors extend throughout and add an additional touch of warmth to the kitchen.

This property has four bedrooms with three full and one half baths. There’s a formal dining room just off of the living room in this 1978-built home, and a wet bar, too, for when your glass turns up with more ice than whiskey.

There are two master suites, one on the first floor and one on the second. Aside from the mirrors in the bathrooms and the vaulted ceiling in one of the suites, they are close to identical. Not that we’re complaining. We’d soak in those tubs!

Of course, these are not the views you are looking for. What you came for in this home is the view to the outdoors, and there are tons of spots where you can take it in. From the 1,000-square-foot deck to the huge L-shaped balcony to the dock to the peninsula with fire pit … This home really doesn’t feel like Arlington!
