Neighborhood Profile: Could Casa Linda Be Any Cooler?

The Natural Grocers at Casa Linda Plaza was once home to a three-screen theater, one of the first to be integrated into a shopping center back in 1945. It closed in 1999, much to the chagrin of the neighborhood.

East Dallas keeps on truckin’ up the list of the most popular parts of the city, and its neighborhood Casa Linda is no different. If you haven’t been around this little area of the land for awhile, you may be surprised at the growth and increasing coolness.

Fairly recently, the Casa Linda area has acquired new bars, restaurants, and shops. Goodfriend Package (an extension of the big guys across the street), 20 Feet Seafood Joint, Steel City Pops, and Savor Patisserie (for macaroons) are among the newbies.

Though there is often varied discussion of exactly where the neighborhood lines are drawn or which area is cooler, this article sticks with Casa Linda in general, which includes Casa Linda Estates and Casa Linda Forest.

Casa Linda Estates is an architecturally significant development of Spanish Colonial Revival-style homes, located a short distance east of White Rock Lake. The neighborhood of approximately 450 homes features some of the largest lots and widest streets in the East Dallas area, which gives it somewhat of a small-town feel.  Parks and trails are abundant throughout the area, and residents enjoy shopping and restaurants in Casa Linda Plaza and the nearby Dallas Arboretum.

Casa Linda Forest, a great development of 440 homes next to Little Forest Hills, consists of five unique subdivisions, each with their own distinctive home styles.  With its towering trees, winding greenbelts, and active neighborhood association, Casa Linda Forest is quite a hidden gem in East Dallas.

Nearby, the ever-expanding and ever-improving Dallas Arboretum continues to grow (literally and figuratively), and the White Rock Dog Park area has been totally renovated for furry friends and their folks. The neighborhood is also zoned for the award-winning Alex Sanger Elementary School, which has a very popular dual-language immersion program and a middle school preparatory academy.

What don’t we have in Casa Linda? There isn’t much that isn’t in or near the neighborhood. There is way too much to list in one article, but Casa Linda has it going on! Let’s take a look!

One other super cool bar/restaurant is Lounge Here on Garland Rd. just up the strip from Dickey’s BBQ. Good vibe and seems packed most of the evenings.
