Tuesday Two Hundred: It’s Christmas Day, And This Sweet Little Alger Park House is a Great Gift

Share News:

I know, I know, houses aren’t exactly gifts. But what’s better than two young people in love, buying a house in a great neighborhood? That’s what I envision when I see 1634 McCosh. A young couple, signing the papers at the title company, getting the keys and racing over to their first home together. If that’s not a perfect Christmas vision, I don’t know what is!

Still, we at CandysDirt.com hope you’re enjoying Christmas morning, however soggy it is, with your family. We’re still holding out hope for snow this evening! How great would that be?

Back to the real estate: This house is a great one for a young couple or a small family who wants beautiful modern interiors without paying out the nose. It has three bedrooms, two and a half baths, a gorgeous kitchen and open concept living area, and is in Alger Park, which is a wonderful little enclave close to White Rock Lake.

This home, which is marketed by one of the top agents in the White Rock Lake area — Edwina Dye of Ebby Halliday Realtors — is priced at $254,900. If you’re not familiar with the area, which is on a very steep upward trajectory, the price will seem a bit high. However, folks are renovating properties and re-investing in this neighborhood and other areas nearby, such as Ash Creek, Lake Park Estates, Lake Terrace, and Casa View Haven. In my opinion, considering the remodeling work and neighborhood, this price is right on point.

The kitchen and living areas, which have been drastically remodeled to include a vaulted ceiling, are my favorite rooms in the home. The hardwood floors, which have been refinished, just glow from all the light in this house. I’m not a fan of the furniture they chose, but the low profiles do accentuate the angles of the home. Check out the little widow seat next to the kitchen! That’s perfect for a breakfast nook or a bench for a dining table.

The kitchen is beautiful, with custom cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and black granite countertops. Of course, the show-stopper is the glass mosaic backsplash. Gorgeous!

While the listing says there are three bedrooms in the home, one of them is somewhat narrow, which would be great for a sitting room, an office, a nursery, or even a den. I’d think it’d be a great little study. Add a couple of comfy chairs next to the gas log fireplace, a desk and a couple of book cases and I’d never want to leave!

The other bedrooms are pretty much standard for homes of this age. 1634 McCosh was built in 1952, and homes that age are going to have 13-foot bedrooms unless you add on, as some homes in this neighborhood have been.

Now, I was hoping that the bathroom would reflect the incredible tile choices in the kitchen, but the finishes, save for that cool oxidized mirror and the neat vanity cabinets, are builder-grade. Still, it’s better than Dal-Tile and having to renovate it yourself.

The backyard, well, it has a deck that was meant for entertaining. I love how spacious it is, and how it wraps around the side of the house.

What do you say, is it a Christmas miracle?
