Charming Westcliff Cottage Offers Location and Updates

Just one block south of TCU is one of Fort Worth’s loveliest neighborhoods. Adjectives like “charming,” even “darling” spring to mind when describing Westcliff. And here, comparisons to Dallas are unavoidable.

Having lived in Dallas for most of my life, I had to drive through the neighborhood vainly looking for evidence of teardowns. It’s all amazingly intact — a lovely enclave of appealing cottages even lacking ill conceived additions that have blighted the M Streets, for example. It is patently apparent that the owner 3604 Westcliff Road intended to stay for a long time, perhaps forever (she is relocating to Chicago). The house has been sensitively, even lovingly updated.

Light pours into the house from large windows. An endearing oculus adds distinction to the exterior wall, and an arched entry leads to one of the four bedrooms currently being used as a home office. The restored, natural hardwood floors sustain the light and airy mood. Walls are painted a soft dove gray.

Some may find the 2,200-square-foot house on the small side, but it is near perfect for downsizing empty nesters desirous of a good address. There is really so little to complain about and so much to love here. And the 1940 build has been thoughtfully opened up around the kitchen, creating a modern flow from room to room.

Top-of-the-line appliances, cabinets, beveled subway tile, and trendy quartz surfaces bring the kitchen up to date. An inset of hand-painted Tabarka tile adds a custom touch of color.

An addition at the back of the house with built-ins and bar adds a large informal living area, but could be reworked to create a large master bedroom suite.

Downstairs bedrooms are of near equal size. The marble-clad bathroom with a modern, freestanding, slipper tub has an understated, luxurious, spa feel.

An under-eave attic bedroom is a grandchild’s dream, but of course could easily convert into a man cave or media room. Mind the steep stairs.

The Westcliff lot is deep with a generous backyard. Also, discreetly tucked in back is a spacious two-car garage. Roof and HVAC are recently replaced.

Karly Johnston of Burt Ladner has listed 3604 Westcliff Road for $495,000.
