The Briarwood traditional classic at 4511 Elsby Ave. is a thing of beauty, and it’s one of our five featured open houses this week.

Every Thursday, we bring you an insider’s look at hot North Texas properties with our CandysDirt Open Houses of the Week column. Every week, we pick five fabulous open houses in Dallas (and the ‘burbs from time to time) you shouldn’t miss.

This week, our houses range in price from $430K to $849K. You’ll find a range of properties, from a Briarwood traditional classic with farmhouse touches and a long list of awesome amenities, to a Winnetka Heights Craftsman with stylish updates. Let us know what you think of our choices, and if you know of any we should feature next week!

8511 Blue Bonnet Rd IHOTW

Bluffview is one of those neighborhoods you don’t expect to find in Dallas. Newcomers are shocked to discover creeks, mature trees, winding streets, and well … bluffs.

Years ago I had the task of recreating Vermont in Dallas for a photo shoot. We chose Bluffview, blew snow onto a cliff (EPA-approved fake snow, of course) and voila — it looked just like our models were hiking Moss Glen Falls Trail, near Stowe. If you’ve been hankering for a home with that East Coast feel, we’ve found your next nest. It’s 8511 Blue Bonnet Road, listed by  John Weber of the always dashing duo Hickman + Weber, who are back at home with Ebby Halliday Realtors. Stay tuned for more to come on that. (more…)

This home in not yet in the MLS: 3708 Harvard, going on for $5.3 million. I love the back yard with the mini plunge pool and water features. Five bedrooms, seven and a half baths, 3 car garage, 3 total  living areas, 3 offices, 7375 sq. ft. on a 75 by 150 foot lot, built brand spanking new in 2007.

Agent: John Weber, Ebby’s Hickman/Weber.

Note: I always wanted to live on Harvard or Dartmouth and wondered if living there helped kids get into the Ivies…
