If you want to see what an incredible renovtion can do for a house, look no further than the 1960s ranch at 5823 Canterview Dr.

Located near N. Jim Miller Road and Interstate 30 in the Buckner Terrace neighborhood, this 3-3 underwent massive changes during the past six months. When Raymond E. Graham and Casey Barton bought it, the property had been vacant for five years and was a total wreck—they called it “the zombie house.” The duo have been renovating and selling houses together for eight years and own the company, Barton-Graham Home&Design Firm.

Graham and Barton are both general contractors and interior decorators and they didn’t miss an inch in this reno. Their efforts paid off: This house went on the market March 13 and was under contract three days later, for the highest price-per-square-foot in the area. It is listed by Graham at William Davis Realty for $290,000.

The duo showed me some “before” pictures of this house and they are scary! It makes me appreciate their work all the more.

Junius HeightsThe Junius Heights Historic District in Old East Dallas is home to the largest collection of Arts and Crafts/Craftsman-style houses in the southwestern United States. As Dallas’ largest historic neighborhood, Junius Heights is a treasure trove of handsome architectural designs, like the rare “airplane bungalow” at 722 N. Beacon St., our Thursday Three Hundred today.

“Airplane bungalows” became popular in the 1920s, an Arts and Crafts style named because the “pop-up” second story was thought to resemble a cockpit over its wings.

This house was built in 1913, so it’s an early example, and a rarity in Dallas—these types of “airplane bungalows” are mainly found on the West coasts of the U.S. and Canada. The exterior is a faithful representation of the style, with its low-pitched, gabled roof; oversized eaves with exposed rafters; wide, welcoming front porch; and open soffits. The color palette is perfectly Arts and Crafts, in sage, cream, and a deep red accent color.

The interior has been renovated in the last year to expand the master suite and update the kitchen and second bathroom. But you’ll still find historic features throughout its 2,020 square feet, like decorative leaded windows, hardwood floors, and an original fireplace.

This three bedroom, 2.5 bath beauty is listed by Peggye Johnson at Group One Realtors for $339,000.

9911 Estate Ln If you want to see the power of a smart renovation to increase a home’s market value, look no further than today’s Thursday Three Hundred, a Lake Highlands reno at 9911 Estate Ln.

This ranch-style house sold in August 2010 for $190,000. Today, it’s listed by Travis Finlan at Ebby Halliday for $350,000.

Obviously, the market has changed dramatically in the past five years, and the increase also reflects the popularity of the Lake Highlands area. But the renovation helped change it from a dud to a stud.

This 1962 home is a 3-3 with 1,753 square feet, located in the North Lake Estates neighborhood near Audelia and Walnut Hill Lane. The house is zoned for Richardson ISD, consistently ranked near the top of all Texas school districts.

Ryan Place is a storied, family-friendly neighborhood three miles south of downtown Fort Worth, located in the Near Southside area.

Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred is a marvelous example of the kind of historic beauties located in the area. The Ryan Place cottage at 3028 6th Ave. was built in 1946, and has darling curb appeal, with colorful, mature landscaping and a charmingly maintained exterior.

The house has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and 1,234 square feet, with separate guest quarters in the back adding an additional 271 square feet and a second bathroom. It is listed by Cecile Montgomery at Burt Ladner Real Estate for $210,000.

400 AcklingtonEverything is bigger in Texas, and that certainly holds true in the residential real estate of Dallas’ northern suburbs.

But spacious houses can be hard to come by under $300K, so today’s Tuesday Two Hundred listing at 400 Acklington Dr. in Anna caught my eye with 3,701 square feet, four big bedrooms, and 2.5 baths. It is newly listed by Steve Warren at Re/Max Dallas Suburbs for $289,900.

That’s just over $78 a square foot—right on par with comparable sales in the area, which have ranged from $63 to $100 a square foot (and this house is the biggest in size of the recent sales I’ve found).

400 Acklington

Anna is located about 11 miles northeast of McKinney and 40 miles north of Dallas on U.S. Highway 75, State Highway 5, and State Highway 121. Those highways make getting around DFW a cinch. It’s also one of the fastest growing cities in Collin County with about 11,000 residents and offers great amenities, like Natural Springs Park, which is walking distance from the house. This heavily wooded park has a spring that feeds into a pond, as well as a large open space. Future plans for the park include walking trails with three bridges, picnic tables, benches, a gazebo, and a fishing pier.

The house is also only 1.9 miles away from Slayter Creek Park with its splash pad, playground, walking trail, skateboard park, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard court, disc golf course, athletic fields, and large pavilion. Jump to read more and see lots of pics of the house!

001_Building ExteriorThe city of Lewisville is spending millions of dollars to revitalize its historic downtown area, and developers are flocking to the northern suburb. Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred takes us to the Belleville Village development near East Main Street and East Mill Street, to a new townhome at 313 S. Kealy Street.

Listed for $209,000, this three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath, two-story townhome is 1,827 square feet, one of six like it coming on the market in Uptown Village Lewisville. The brick exterior mirrors the look and feel of downtown Lewisville, and the aesthetic is a historic, urban look.

“This is going to be a walkable area, like Shops at Legacy or in Coppell,” said David Maez, Broker and Co-Owner at VIVO Realty, which represents the developer. “Our company really wanted to showcase the lifestyle that this development and downtown Lewisville will offer.”

Designed by architect Jack R. Yardley and built in 1976, this looker is listed by Brandon Stewart with David Griffin & Company for $360,000.
