Real Estate Story
HGTV Ultimate House Hunt

The Mediterranean estate at 6436 Sudbury Rd. in Plano is one of three Ebby properties in the 2016 HGTV Ultimate House Hunt.

HGTV’s Ultimate House Hunt 2016 is underway, and three DFW properties have made the contest for the world’s most amazing homes for sale. All three are listed by Ebby Halliday Realtors, with two in Plano and one in Prosper (Deion Sanders’ former home).

“We’re honored to have three incredible homes nominated in HGTV’s Ultimate House Hunt competition this year,” said Randall Graham, vice president and director of marketing for Ebby Halliday Realtors. “Our associates represent some of the area’s very best properties. These homes benefit from many marketing advantages because of our association with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and its luxury division, Luxury Portfolio International, which has more $1 million-plus properties than any other luxury real estate network.”

6523 Lupton IHOTW

We scroll through a lot of listings every day. Sometimes we just sit back, gaze at the screen, and say “Wow!” This Preston Hollow French Eclectic at 6523 Lupton is a stunner. What caught our eye is the craftsmanship and after a little digging we’re not surprised to find it was built by Danes Custom Homes. Yes, the owners really are Danish, hence the name, and they grew up in homes that were over a hundred years old which inspired the company ethos:

“When you build a home you want to make it timeless, elegant, and functional and you build it to last.”

Sustainability is often overlooked by luxury home builders. It’s refreshing to see a company that makes this a priority and goes out of their way to use ecologically sound materials and building strategies. Everyone wants a smart home investment these days, regardless of the price point. This is 6,638-square-feet of gorgeous genius. The house was actually built in 2012 for a top Frito Lay honcho and his wife who are now moving on. Some lucky buyer will have the benefit of this sharp couple’s smart choices and maybe even find a stash of Fritos left inside the cupboard!

5108 Silver Lake Drive extIs it faster to get to DFW now from Plano over Dallas?

Last Thursday Ebby Halliday agent extraordinaire Cindy O’Gorman was in the national spotlight on  CNBC talking about our uber hot real estate market, focusing on Plano, though the spot was teased “we are going to go to Dallas.” Cindy is a mega producing agent — number 33 nationally on the Wall Street Journal’s list, and her group closed $143 million last year, mostly in the Plano/Bent Tree area. She’s got 105 plus listings on her site, mostly in Plano and Frisco, but a good bit on Flower Mound, Southlake, and Preston Hollow. Cindy told The Power House peeps you can get a pretty decent home in Plano for under $100 a square foot, with great schools to boot. Oh, don’t we know it?

Cindy on CNBC

The only thing I disagree with Cindy on is her estimate of how far Plano is from downtown Dallas, or even, let’s say, Preston Center. Cindy said Plano is 20 minutes from BOTH DFW and downtown Dallas. We just got back from the airport and right now, it’s a good 30 minutes to/from DFW from north Dallas traveling the mess that is LBJ. That is barring any traffic!

And I disagree that Plano is just 20 minutes from downtown Dallas, again because of the traffic. But Cindy may be right about getting to DFW in 20 minutes from Plano. I mean, I think you can get to Amarillo now faster than you can get to DFW from North Dallas on LBJ.

Here are the three listings Cindy chatted up on CNBC: 2800 Longtown Drive for $374,900, 5737 River Rock Lane at $549,900 and 6901 Crystal Falls at $750,000. I don’t know why she didn’t show this $1.299 million deal at 5108 Silver Lake Drive: they said everything’s bigger in Texas, and have you ever seen such a huge master shower? And do those front windows look like photos in an album to you, too?5108 Silver Lake Drive master bath 5108 Silver Lake Drive kitchen

36 Ash Bluff extI have finally found a home that could potentially force me to do something really stupid, the likes of which I have never done. Like climb a roof, or maybe bribe someone. You must understand this is truly a trend-setting house nestled away in the woods of North Dallas, with all the bells and whistles I have ever wanted in a home. Like, did my clone built it? I might in fact bribe Cindy O’Gorman to give me a staycation in this place. I’ve always said, try before you buy! Why can’t we try on houses for size?

I want you to look at this piece of beauty and note the price has been reduced to $1,999,000 from a previous high of $2,195,000. Get your signature pens ready!

Recently built in 1998, how can 36 Ash Bluff be only two years senior of my house but look so fabulous? Is she just one of those who never ages? First of all, it’s a modern design on 1.5 wooded acres in the exclusive Ash Bluff 2 section of Glen Abbey, the old Murchison estate property developed by former Dallas Mayor Bob Folsom. You want gated — this is gated, chi chi and uber secure. There are 6,000 glorious square feet in the main house which includes wood and stone flooring, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the grounds, not one, not two but three oversized wood burning fireplaces, wood beamed and corrugated metal ceilings, enormous room sizes, and a fifty foot long loggia gallery perfect for an art collection. Or meditating.36 ash bluff dr36 ash bluff loggia36 ash bluff lr36 ash bluff lr 2

I love the kitchen: commercial-style for serious cooks (or the serious chefs we hire) with wood counters, open shelving, 6 burner Viking range, Sub Zero, and great storage spaces. This home built a caterer’s kitchen with more storage, lighted cabinets, and concrete counters before everyone in Highland Park got one. In fact, this home may have invented the caterers kitchen.

But here is where I could just live and really, to be blunt, die! The master suite offers an office, (the second) with fireplace, large sitting area, kitchenette where I would add in my Miele coffeemaker from the folks at Capital Distribution, color-coordinate my clothes in the huge walk in closet, bathe in that luxurious bath with stone flooring and oval soaking tub, and clutter the granite counters. There is a separate spa room for the masseuse, and the enormous bedroom with walls of windows bringing the outdoors in without the nasties, and one more wood burning fireplace. Plenty of room for the husband, too, who might actually find his wife, the blogger, if her office was off the bedroom.36 ash bluff master bath36 ash bluff master bath 236 ash bluff master36 ash bluff master 2

The home offers three living areas, four bedrooms with master down, four fireplaces, study, solarium, game-room, a separate spa/hot tub room, a carriage house that is 3,000 square feet where you find the solarium, two enormous rooms, upstairs guest quarters with 2 bedrooms and baths, full kitchen with wood floors and granite counter tops (yes, I am in the guest house, dear) plus eating and dining area.36 ash bluff kitchen36 ash bluff kitchen 236 ash bluff kitchen 3

Did I tell you this home has a SIX CAR detached garage plus extra storage rooms, both a metal and tile roof, seriously sexy lap pool, and near perfect grounds that resemble a Zen garden?36 ash bluff pool

I am calling Cindy right now…  this house is seriously too good to be true…

Oh oh, I found some really bad design in a home up in Plano listed with Cindy O’Gorman for $2,365,000. All I can say, if all these dramatic drapes come with the house, play Scarlett O’Hara and whip them into a dress. Or use them to cover up that purple furniture.

And note how the dining room furniture is dwarfed by those tall ceilings?
