Jennifer Ackerman

If there’s an upside to cancer, Jennifer Friedman Ackerman managed to find it.

Diagnosed at only 24 years old with breast cancer, Jennifer was much younger than others she met fighting the disease, and she struggled to find a peer group for support. But she took those feelings of isolation and disorientation and turned them around. A self-described “local poster-child for breast cancer,” Ackerman uses her survivor status to help other young women navigate the frightening and life-changing waters of breast cancer.

“I’m always willing and open to sharing my experience – the good, the bad, the ugly – with young women dealing with cancer so they never feel like they’re alone,” she said. “I can show them there is light at the end of the tunnel. Life can go on, and there is so much to look forward to. Fighting this tough fight is worth it.”

She is Nilza Rueckert, an outstanding Ebby agent, with a Brazilian background, who has lived in Dallas since 1999. A real estate veteran, Nilza worked for a Dallas-based home builder, Woodhaven Homes, and first obtained her real estate license in 2003.

“I started building my business and things were going so well that I, a single mother, decided to go home to Brazil for two months,” says Nilza.

The year was 2007. When she came back to the States, the market had tanked. No one was trading homes!

“I realized it was going to be a very tough few years, so I did what I had to do to survive,” says Nilza.

Years ago, in Brazil, she had obtained her cosmetology license, so she went to work in a Little Elm hair salon to make ends meet.

“But my passion is real estate, so I got back into the market as soon as I saw the ticker heading upwards,” says Nilza. (more…)

Nancy Reagan

The moment I received an email from Realtor Nancy Reagan agreeing to an interview, I eagerly picked up the phone to call her. It rang twice and before I could speak, the voice on the other end joked, “What took you so long?”

A trained stage actress, Nancy clearly knows her way around an opening line. Raised in East Texas and educated at Stephens College in Missouri and Syracuse University in New York, she moved to New York City to study at American Academy of Dramatic Arts. As a member of the American National Theater and Academy, Nancy appeared in off-Broadway productions for several years before moving her acting career to Houston. There,  she performed at Nina Vance’s Alley Theatre. The lady’s certainly got chops!

Today’s highlighted agent may be a familiar face to you, especially if you are a member of the congregation at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church — he’s Steve Cairns, who served as youth minister in the 3,000-member church for more than 20 years.

It turns out the character traits needed to provide guidance and support to young people in a spiritual setting lend themselves nicely to assisting individuals purchasing a new home. Steve’s personal journey finding a new home and navigating the complex waters of the buying it led him to join the team at the Lakewood/Lake Highlands office of Ebby Halliday Realtors, where he’s planning to help others seeking shelter themselves.
