Oak Lawn Luxury Townhouse: A Global Vacation Without Leaving Home

Just look at that custom cathedral entry door! It gives you a small hint at what’s to come in this gorgeous Oak Lawn luxury townhouse. Once inside, prepare to go on a veritable global vacation. The seller has created thematic living spaces that take you from a Nantucket seaside cottage to a Moroccan rooftop resort.
“I have to say I was blown away,” Steve Habgood said. Habgood was referring to the first time he cast eyes on this Oak Lawn townhouse at 3703 Congress Avenue. Habgood and Kathy Hewitt of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate’s Hewitt & Habgood listed the gorgeous three-story home just days ago for $1.275 million.
We are equally blown away. In fact, we’re totally enamored of this property.
Inspired design, creative style, and a bold use of color define this 3,334-square-foot renovation. The home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and one powder bath. Every space has been clearly defined to create an ambience that engages the head and the heart.
“I’d seen these townhouses before,” said Habgood. “But the present owner came in and reimagined this one with an almost whole-house renovation. He made it very transitional with museum-finished walls and new hardware and fixtures.” And of course, that thematic approach that just makes it all work beautifully.
Glance right when you enter the door, and you’re in a beautiful seaside Nantucket-styled guest room that would easily garner Ralph Lauren’ s stamp of approval. You know he’d love the rowing oars affixed to the ceiling.
The main rooms are beautifully classical. Just between the dining room and kitchen you are transported to a Kelly green Irish pub complete with a tapped keg.
The kitchen is a dream in white and Equator Maramar marble, new light fixtures from Ralph Lauren, a country farm sink, and Waterworks faucet. Be still my beating chef’s heart.
“The seller found a Civil War-era roughhewn pine and had it imported and milled on site to create the study,” Habgood said. “It’s a statement room.” The teak door is from a 150-year-old home in Northern India, further cementing that this house really is a traveler’s dream.
Ok, you’ve seen plenty of elevators in Dallas, but nothing like this. The seller created an homage to a British telephone booth. Although most English phone boxes don’t have a floor-to-ceiling Union Jack flag, we think it adds just the right touch of whimsy.
Glide up in British glory to the master bedroom, which is wrapped in a cocoon of warm gray with a black piano finish fireplace surround. There’s a French balcony off of the master, exactly what you need to perfect your royal wave.
The master bath was completely gutted. A Carrara marble patterned floor was installed that includes a programmable heating system. You read that right, heated floors. More Carrara marble in the shower, which features four custom Waterworks shower heads and body sprays. Then, of course, there is a Waterworks soaking tub. “When I see those stand-out selections, they take your breath away,” Habgood said.
The pièce de résistance is the fourth-floor Moroccan-inspired rooftop deck with breathtaking views. “It’s magnificent,” Habgood said. “The seller created stand-out moments in this house by taking small elements and bringing them to life.”
We cannot fathom a more sophisticated luxury townhouse in a better location. Located just off Oak Lawn Avenue and within walking distance to one of our favorite watering holes, The Mansion Bar, it’s perfection.
With the Super Bowl looming this weekend, Habgood and Hewitt are waiting to host an open house until Feb. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m.
