5007 Purdue AvenueIf you want to know the hottest trend in home design, we have the answer. This Briarwood modern farmhouse at 5007 Purdue Avenue ticks all the boxes and then some. It’s an absolutely gorgeous 1939 home that has been remodeled to perfection by listing agent Lindsay Hagan with Ebby Halliday.

A quick Google search will show you just how hot this look has become. You’ll find page after page of everything from how to build a modern farmhouse or renovate your home to look like one, to where to find the appropriate furnishings and accessories.

Chip and Joanna Gaines can take full credit for starting this movement with the creation of their HGTV series Fixer Upper. They’ve gone on to create an empire that rivals what Ralph Lauren began decades ago and looks likely to supersede his success. This is because it’s an accessible look that is fairly easy to replicate and does not generally require the dedicated skills of an interior designer.

It’s easy to take the look too far, however, and hard not to lapse into a sad derivative. We’ve all seen too many kitschy signs and shiplap walls. So it’s a delight to discover a modern farmhouse that has taken the best of that trend but stayed true to the modern aspect of what really works for today’s family lifestyle.

“I’m definitely a Chip and Joanna fan,” Hagan said. “I love old farm homes, that’s my style. I had always admired the house and actually bought it mid remodel, as the sellers had to relocate for work. I was able to go in and completely customize it to my style.”

Hagan did everything right in our book, from the inviting front porch to the ingenious turf and gravel backyard. There are smart features like pocket doors that we don’t see often enough — they make so much sense. And casement windows, sheer perfection. The original hardwoods run throughout the 3,088-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bathroom home. There are two fireplaces, one in the living room and one in the family room, a sunroom, and a fantastic flex space above the garage that can be a studio space, guest quarters, nanny flat, workout area — the possibilities are endless.

Hagan has truly taken the best ideas Fixer Upper has to offer and improved on them in a magnificent way.

And remember if someone puts a contract on this $ 849,000 beauty before you get to it, season four of Fixer Upper premieres November 29th.
