Our Saturday Six Hundred at 4608 Livingston is just about the cutest West Highland Park cottage we’ve ever seen. We’ve been bullish on this neighborhood for some time now. It’s close to everything — great dining and shopping, minutes from Love Field, and of course the Dallas North Tollway is down the street. For young professionals that don’t want a high-rise lifestyle and are not ready to spend a million on a home, it’s a perfect location.

There are only about 375 homes here. Finding those original 1930s and 1940s homes that have so much character can be a challenge in Dallas unless you are in a conservation district. Fortunately, teardowns have not hit this neighborhood quite as hard as others. Residents have access to the fantastic Highland Park Department of Public Safety, although they are not in the school district. This is the one big reason you can still find these great homes. It’s also why it appeals so much to young professionals and couples, or those just starting a family. When you don’t have a school district to worry about, you have a lot more affordable housing options.

Built in 1937, the 1,672-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage looks more like it belongs in the English countryside than in the heart of Dallas.

Who wouldn’t opt for a screened porch over an entry hall? This is a concept we need to see happening on new builds. It just makes so much more sense than a formal entry hall you can’t use. Everyone wants outdoor living space and having it on the front of the house makes so much sense. You can sit on the front porch, enjoy morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, and keep an eye on what’s going on in the neighborhood!

The vaulted ceilings in the living room give a sense of spaciousness without impinging on the cozy feel of the home. There is gorgeous warm oak wood flooring extending throughout the house. Nothing imparts a European feeling more than hardwoods in the kitchen, and this kitchen looks like it could be a movie set. You can just imagine Benedict Cumberbatch strolling in to make you a cup of tea. Of course as charming as it is, there are all the high-end, professional appliance you’d expect to find, as well as loads of storage and stunning marble countertops.
