Urban Reseve 14 Vanguard Way

Urban Reserve is where the cool kids live — there’s no doubt about it. You have to have a certain aesthetic and sensibility to appreciate what this master-planned, sustainable, modern oasis is all about. It’s not surprising that in a neighborhood of 50 homes spread over 13 acres you’ll find seven architects, artists, and interior designers — you know, the cool kids.

Now you can join them (and be cool, too) because 14 Vanguard Way, our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week, has just been listed by Joseph Garcia of Gharbieh + Associates for $904,900. Architect Brent Brown designed the 3,008-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom home. Brown is a director with BC Workshop and the founding director of the city of Dallas’ CityDesign Studio. And he’s won more awards than we have room to write about.

Brown designed the entry of this home to complement the exterior, wrapping both in a warm, rich, IPE— a hardwood from Brazil that is, of course, eco-friendly.14 Vanguard WayThe open-plan living area was enhanced by the present owner Pamela Southern, an interior designer. Southern designed the show-stopping fireplace wall, creating repetitions of niches under the existing window and adding a wonderful metal sculptural element to the fireplace.

“It’s a wow factor,” Garcia said. “The living and dining areas are a great entertainment space.”

The dining room custom cabinetry is by Studio Becker, which uses only sustainable sources. Light fixtures can make or break a room, and this one — Oh Mei Ma by Ingo Maurer (you may remember their iconic Lucellino—a light bulb fixture with wings) — is a touch of perfection.

The kitchen countertops are reconstituted granite and the island is Corian. This is a smart choice because it’s incredibly durable, non-porous, stain resistant, seamless, heat resistant, and, of course, sustainable.

By now most of us know the mastermind behind this green community is Diane Cheatham, one of the most futuristic thinkers in real estate development. Urban Reserve is a shining example of what happens when smart people are allowed to do smart things. Every house in the development has LEED-H certification. Style and sustainability go hand-in-hand here. In fact, two of the existing homes will be featured in the upcoming AIA Dallas Tour of Homes in October.

Are you ready to be one of the cool kids?
