8511 Blue Bonnet Rd IHOTW

Bluffview is one of those neighborhoods you don’t expect to find in Dallas. Newcomers are shocked to discover creeks, mature trees, winding streets, and well … bluffs.

Years ago I had the task of recreating Vermont in Dallas for a photo shoot. We chose Bluffview, blew snow onto a cliff (EPA-approved fake snow, of course) and voila — it looked just like our models were hiking Moss Glen Falls Trail, near Stowe. If you’ve been hankering for a home with that East Coast feel, we’ve found your next nest. It’s 8511 Blue Bonnet Road, listed by  John Weber of the always dashing duo Hickman + Weber, who are back at home with Ebby Halliday Realtors. Stay tuned for more to come on that.

This traditional 6,803-square-foot, two-story home has three living areas, and six bedrooms — five of which have private en-suite bathrooms — and three more baths, you know, just in case five is not enough to go around. A house can never have enough bathrooms though, can it?

Built in 1939, the house underwent extensive updating, remodeling and expansion in 2013, all superbly done. The traditional living room has enough custom cabinetry to showcase an extensive library or collection of objet d’art. Half fan windows top glass double doors in the study and dining areas, framing beautiful views to the backyard and covered porch. The study is a case of intelligent design, because remodeling included the one essential we all need when we’re working — a bar.

The ceilings in the main family area were vaulted, allowing for massive windows and a fireplace extending to the ceiling to take center stage. This room opens into a generous gourmet kitchen with the requisite custom cabinets, Dacor appliances, and yards of granite countertops.

An oversized master bedroom with a large sitting area is on the first floor with yet more huge windows. The master bathroom has his-and-hers vanities, a jetted tub, and a walk in shower. Of course there’s an enormous closet.

Upstairs you’ll find a huge playroom area and four bedrooms for the kiddos. The laundry room is on the second level as well, which is brilliant because who wants to schlep the kid’s laundry up and down stairs?

As if the house is not enough, remember that covered porch I mentioned outside the dining room windows? It’s basically another huge living area, complete with gas fireplace, grill, TV, and loads of room to entertain. All of this overlooks a heavily treed backyard and pool. You know you’ll have a non-stop flow of out-of-town guests because you’re minutes from Dallas Love Field Airport, so the separate guest cottage is going to see a lot of action.

You can check out this $1.35 million property at the upcoming open house on March 15, that is, if it’s still available.
