Its’ tricky to pull off a build that looks like it fits into an established neighborhood but that’s exactly what architect Guy Vance Brown did with 6832 Avalon Ave. David Bush has the $1.7 million listing and is calling this four-bedroom, three-full- and-one-half-bath home an “Alpine Tudor.” We think that’s an apt moniker for the just-listed Lakewood lovely. It’s like a cross between a Swiss chalet and grandma’s cottage in the woods, if grandma is Lynn Wyatt. Brick has been used judiciously to enhance rather than overpower the 4,241-square-foot home. The front balcony seals the deal on exterior charm. Can’t you just imagine waving to the neighbors at sunset, cocktail in hand?

We’re suckers for beamed ceilings at CandysDirt.com, so we fell in love with the the main living spaces. It’s a relief to see a TV that does not dominate and overpower the room, but is instead nestled into the stone fireplace. That is absolutely inspired design. Don’t worry, the big screen is on the other side in the family area, and fits nicely into the custom cabinetry.

The kitchen is extremely well-thought-out with no wasted space, and one of our favorite artists, Sonia King, did the mosaic over the cooktop. King not only happens to be a neighbor but is also is an award-winning mosaic artist who’s created numerous pieces for Children’s Medical Center Dallas. That’s one of the nice things about Lakewood, your neighbors are likely to be friendly and talented.

Step out of  the master bedroom and through the adjoining bath for an early morning dip in the pool.

“We love the way the house opens onto the pool. It’s like hanging out at a spa,” said seller Tom Boyd. The Boyds had a laundry list of specifications when they built the home in 2005. “We wanted an exercise room and a large second floor media area for our son to hang out with friends. We also wanted balconies, so there’s another on the back of the house overlooking the pool.”

We love how builders maximize outdoor space in Texas, and Gustafson Custom Homes did just that. It’s a design feat to elegantly master the outdoor kitchen, pool, and party pavilion space, and it’s been accomplished very effectively here.

Showings are by appointment only, so give David Bush a call to see this stunner.
