This New Darling of Devonshire Just Packs it All In… With Pretty Punch!

Devonshire is really an amazing Dallas Real Estate story. The sleepy little enclave of post World War II bungalows and 1950’s ranches housed many a happy family who treasured the trees and loved being minutes from Love Field, a few miles up from downtown just off Lover’s Lane. Which was once, actually, a quiet lane for lovers.  Once upon a time you could buy a home around here for about $100,000.

Then we all grew up.

Devonshire lots (fifth to quarter acre in size) were running about $375K as the recession eased.

Now, they are almost double that.

“It’s truly a walkable community,” says Briggs Freeman Sothebys International agent Becky Frey. “My out of town clients who move here love it because they can walk to dinner, a grocery store and the movies in Devonshire and still have a beautiful single family home with all the privacy.”

A current example is Becky’s listing at 5535 Bryn Mawr.

Sited on a 70 foot wide lot, this is a soft new contemporary with abundant energy efficiency and stunning designer finishes throughout.  Walk in and you have what is either a formal room or a snug study; formals plus the master bedroom, bath and closet suite are on the first floor as well as the decked designer kitchen that opens to the huge den (22 by 20 feet) and wet bar. I like a first floor laundry room, too, and this one has it along with a Mom’s desk. The contractors, Junco Builders, created custom cabinets in the kitchen that were given a special paint finish and coating at the factory, then delicately delivered and installed. You could live your entire life here on this floor and never set foot upstairs.

Down again, there is a covered patio with fireplace, room for an exterior kitchen and certainly a pool. I’d get an electric screen for sure. My favorite detail in this very well-done home, however, is the Villa Caprisi 12-inch hardwood floors… smooth as a baby’s butt and just plain beautiful! Listed at $1,975,000.

Yes, Virginia, this really is Devonshire in Dallas. And if you want an up to date mortgage, the good people at Inwood Bank would love to talk to you. After all, they are right down the street on Inwood Road.

Inwood National Bank opened its doors in a small building at 5411 Lovers Lane in 1964. Just four years later, the bank moved to its present 45,000 square foot location at 7621 Inwood Road. You could always walk there, but Inwood National Bank makes banking and mortgages so easy, your fingers will get all the exercise. Still, wouldn’t it be nice to do business with someone in the neighborhood?
