I’m often asked how we select homes to be featured on CandysDirt.com, and this house is a great opportunity to give our readers a little peek behind the curtain. Located in Kessler Park, this 1957 ranch looks rather unassuming from the outside, but its real appeal is within.

It has a fabulous combination of location, size, and original details that make it worthy of being named our High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. It’s all in the details with this house, and when you’re ready to put a bid in on your home, you want a detail-oriented mortgage professional on your side. But besides having great details, fabulous bones, and a classic midcentury ranch floor plan, there are some quirky and cute features in this Kessler Park home that you won’t soon forget. Jump to see inside!

Located on a huge grassy lot with towering trees at 1006 Knott Place, this listing from David Griffin Realtor Robert Kucharski is one in a million. Not only does it have the kind of quality construction that weathers the fads and trends, but it is in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in North Oak Cliff. With more than a quarter of an acre, 3,100-plus square feet, three bedrooms and two and a half baths, it’s a home that can be easily updated to fit your life.

Not only that, but this ranch has some amazing finishes that were truly high-end when it was constructed in 1957. The foyer features durable tile on the floor and is flanked by the main entertaining spaces. The formal living room has a cool carved wooden screen that separates it from the family area and the kitchen beyond. And in the family room you have an enormous gas fireplace with a copper hood and stone surround, as well as glossy pegged hardwood floors and tons of built-ins. The tongue-in-groove beamed ceiling is so classy. Just beyond is a bonus room that isn’t calculated in the home’s total square footage.

Move right in and start living in this perfectly retro kitchen, updated with stainless steel appliances and a modern-feeling venthood. The counters and backsplash look to be Corian, which is durable and looks great in this space. I really love the peninsula, with its off-kilter, slanted base. Just beyond is a breakfast room that is sunny, with plantation shutters and plenty of storage.

In the master suite you really start to appreciate the fun and funky vibe in this home. First, the layout is what saves marriages. Not only is there an enormous walk-in closet and a separate built-in valet, but the bathroom is divided by use. The configuration is genius, as one side has a vanity, sink and commode closet, while the other has a sink, shower, and separate tub with a bench. Of course, if you’re a lover of vintage Daltile as I know our friends over at Retro Renovation are, then this bathroom and the second completely bubblegum pink bath will tickle you … well, pink!

Outside you’ll find a modest backyard that is grassy and neat with a cute little gazebo and wrought-iron fencing that allows you a view to the nearby park. But if you fall in love with this home, it will be for the well-maintained interiors that have some really fantastic details.

This house is one of the most intact Ranch houses I have seen and it is so hard to realize that another one of these will be “updated” to suit HGTV’s idea of what is in style today! So shortsighted. Thank you for showing us the real thing with this listing!.

I agree, Nancy. I so hope the buyers will keep some of the cool 1950s charm! Not all “updates” are “upgrades”!

I am blessed to have these lucky buyers, and I can absolutely assure you that they won’t “HGTV” this wonderful gem. They intend to restore it and improve it, keeping in mind the spirit in which it was constructed, and making period sensitive choices. I am thrilled for this very special family and I can’t wait to see how this already fabulous home evolves under their care!
