Frank Welch Says His Book Signing at SMINK Was The. Best. Ever.

As you know, one of the Southwest’s most important and renowned architects, Frank D. Welch, FAIA, has published a memoir, On Becoming an Architect. He chose SMINK in the Dallas Design District to autograph his very first books on June 5th. Signing signing signing!

Next he goes to Midland, where he lived for more than 25 years, and where he has a wife and son buried, to sign. Check our sister blog, MidlandDirt.com, for a Q and A with Frank on his life in Midland.

Then he’s back to Dallas on June 23, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Dallas Center for Architecture to sign even more books!

Says Jennifer Smink about the event she hosted: “Frank said “it was the best book signing I ever experienced” I think he had a splendid time, and sold a couple hundred books. We were pleased to see so many old friends. I had worked at Caudill Rowlett and Scott in Houston before coming to Dallas, and it was interesting to see that Frank had studied with Caudill in College Station! The photos in the book are wonderful!

A vivid memory and sharp focus enabled Welch to narrate the extraordinary story of his life with great richness and insight. From his boyhood in Sherman, Texas, through his education at Texas A&M in the 1950’s and his first professional ventures, Welch‘s story is a remarkable memoir of how he became one of the Southwest’s most important architects.

The book signing at the Dallas center for Architecture will be a come-and-go event. Refreshments will be provided (nice!) and books will be available for purchase for $45.00.
