In Demand: Tom Greico is Enjoying Being “The Next Big Thing” in Homebuilding

Tom Greico’s project on Easton Road is a modern home that takes full advantage of the long lot and canopy of trees.

He’s passionate about building custom homes that evoke the clean lines and accessible floorplans for which he’s known. Forward-thinking, open, and bright, Tom Greico’s brand of modern has developed a loyal following.

“They go on the internet and they see me on Facebook and they follow me. People will come up to me and say, ‘We saw your house on Such-and-such Road,'” Greico says with a laugh. And after that, they often ask when Greico Modern Homes be available to build the home of their dreams. With eight projects right now, he says it’ll be about a year or so before he can start something new, but it’s great to be in-demand, Greico said.

One project, an opportunity Greico couldn’t turn down, is the Easton Road home he’s designed and building for a 30-something couple with a kid. The home, situated on a large, deep lot in Old Lake Highlands, had fresh drywall when I toured it with Greico, a CandysDirt.com approved builder.

It’s interesting to note that the lot was once under contract by a developer that wanted to put six homes up. While this house may stand out about among it’s neighboring traditionals and midcentury moderns, it won’t be nearly as obtrusive as a half-dozen zero-lot-line homes.

It’ll carry his signature exterior that includes bold lines and stained wood paneling with stucco and tons of glass. One of the most interesting parts of this home is the great room, which will have two walls of sliding glass doors that will give the homeowners two-way views of their huge lot, as well as provide natural ventilation with a cross-breeze.

Large walls of glass sliding doors on either side of the first floor will provide a fantastic cross-breeze for the homeowners.

It’s a room that is connected to the kitchen, which will have a gigantic island, and another glass door will lead to the back porch, which will be covered and allow for indoor/outdoor living. The entire home is practically sheathed in Low-e glass, and is constructed in a way to take advantage of the natural light that filters through the canopy of trees surrounding the home.

Greico has included some interesting concepts in the house, which will have a trough-style double-vanity in the master bath as well as a free-standing soaking tub and a full-sized shower. The master will have tons of windows, from which you can see the skinny lot in its entirety. There are two bedrooms and two full baths upstairs and a multi-purpose area. Downtstairs is the great room, an office, a half bath and laundry room, and a kitchen with an eat-in island.

What’s great about Greico’s designs is that they don’t rely on gimmicks, like shipping containers. Instead, his custom-builds are easy-to-love modern homes with solid design and great features that bring in the beauty that surrounds them. His award-winning designs sport natural elements, open floorplans, huge windows, engaging spaces, clean lines, and modern cabinetry — all of the things buyers want today.

Who could ask for more?
