There’s Gold in This Northwest Dallas Dirt: Buy, Lease, Hold, Build

9403 Thornberry extThis is one of my favorite areas in Dallas, one that always holds a ton of promise and where we can see evidence of real estate development progress every day. I am talking about Thornberry Lane, right off Northwest Highway, west of Midway but before Mixon and Marsh. To the north and east are multi million dollar homes — even some of the homes on Thornberry have been scraped. You are close to everything, from Lovers/Inwood to Northwest Highway and Midway, and Preston Center is a mile or two east. I think development west of here will continue. It’s a little noisy, yes, because of the traffic but hello, we are living in a big city now, not a farmstand. And yes, Love Field might get busier and noisier but the proximity to Love is almost intoxicating: I am off to D/FW in the early am and dreading that morning drive already. Come October, I’ll be able to hop on Southwest to San Jose and leave from Love. That’s what I call love!

9403 Thornberry bedroom 3Plus this home would be a great investment to live in, or lease out, while you farm the almost one-half acre lot for future development. Asking price won’t break the bank even with student loans: $249,000!

Drawback: 9403 Thornberry has only two bedrooms, and one bath, but one very decked out bath. You get 1534 square feet, cute formals, updated kitchen with a breakfast bar,  back wood deck, great trees and except for a busy street on one side, location. I am sure the home builders have this home bookmarked. Check it out. I bet it’s gone by next week when I return from Cali. If it’s not, well, I may buy it! You’re right Candy – this is an “affordable” gem in Midway Hollow – where prices are up considerably
and it’s now difficult to find anything under $ 350,000.
Developers like Midway Hollow and NW Dallas because of the large lot sizes (some nearly 1/2 acre)
that you just can’t find over in Lakewood and some other areas of town any more – and you simply cannot build in Preston Hollow for less than $ 800k to $ 1 M now because the land prices are so high.
I totally agree with you that NW Dallas is ripe for investment and gentrification over time. It’s already happening in Midway Hollow and will only move further West and North.
The proximity to Love Field and the DART Bachman Station with new light rail service to DFW Airport in
a quick 20-25 minutes starting in August – should be a further boon to the area.

I will never use the light rail service to DFW because my suitcases are too heavy! But Love Field I love ya!
