Cliff May Midcentury Modern Needs a Loving, Detail-Oriented Owner to Restore it to its Former Glory

I almost wept when I saw this listing today. It’s so sad to see beautiful homes fall by the wayside, and this home was once an incredible one, a Cliff May-designed Midcentury Modern ranch.
Today it is a haphazard shell of a house, dirty and dusty, and mostly neglected. But therein lies the opportunity — you can own a Cliff May home for just $129,900.
That’s a deal, folks, but this home needs a lot of work. That’s actually a brutal understatement for this Casa View Oaks home at 2604 Andrea. It’s listed by RE/MAX About Dallas agent Matt Nevitt, who describes the property thusly:
This Cliff May, Mid-Century Modern Ranch, needs to be restored to its former glory! Lots of natural light in this 3 bedroom 2 full bath home. Floor to ceiling windows in the living area with a brick fireplace. Hardwood floors in the living, dining and bedrooms. Has a one car garage but could be converted back to a 2 car.
Are you up to the challenge? I think that Jenni Stolarski should buy this home and make it one of her masterpieces! This could be a cool home for anyone, even a family. It’s close to the recently renovated Harry Stone Recreation Center in an area that is going through a significant amount of gentrification. This is a serious investment home!
Built in 1955, this home does have a lot of original details, including clerestory windows, hardwoods, and a brick fireplace. It’s not currently on the registry of Cliff May-designed homes, but its nearby neighbor, 2651 Andrea, is. In fact, this street is a hidden gem of California ranch-style homes. This house is being sold as an estate, so it’s an as-is transaction.
Someone snatch this amazing project up fast and keep us posted on your progress!
Another great find – I bet it will be gone in a snap at that price!
Yes, someone please fix this one up true to its mid century roots! These Cliff May homes sell for $500k-$1 million in California. I would hate for this to get into the hands of someone who would make it "country french" or "tuscan" or whatever other beige crap home depot has on sale this week.

So I just need that TV show to happen and this can be our first rehab!

Seeing this home makes me sad. It's like a sweet dog who has not been cared for a very long time. It just makes me want to cry!

This is definitely a rescue job just waiting to happen. I looked at one, quote similar, in Southern CA last Summer and it was listed for $899K and "needed a little TLC"

I close on my house on Casa View next month and came across this one in my searches. I'd made an offer on another Cliff May (in good condition) on Materhorn a few weeks back that was priced at $135k. I just don't see them getting anywhere near asking considering the amount of work it needs. But what do I know? Not a realtor, just a recent house hunter.

I grew up on Andrea Lane and lived in one of these homes. Very well built!
I grew up down the street from this house. It had a very unusual roof, put on by the engineer that owned it.
The driveway is shared with the neighbor to the west. My home was the same -we could have full court basketball games from garage hoop to garage hoop, since they faced each other. I am biased, but I still miss these houses very much. They are truly unique. I am glad to read that Harry Stone Rec is once again alive. Many memories from that place.
That is a lovely house! We would really enjoy a mid-century project. But we’ll have to pass for now. Thanks for the suggestion! The one thing I have learned is, for my sanity, I do renos close to me. Now, if we could find that in Kiestwood…..
Jenni Stolarski should buy this home. She would do a wonderful job. Masterpieces like this should be saved.
