Tuesday Two Hundred: Room by Room, This Cute Craftsman Changes More Than a Mood Ring

All I can really say is that the current owner of 114 N. Windomere has some very diverse tastes. You can’t tell from the curb, but woo wee! This homeowner is not afraid of color!

I count five rooms with completely different wallpaper, candy red cabinets in the kitchen (which has bright yellow walls, by the way), and a master bath that has some interesting tile choices.

And yet, I still really like the place! This two bedroom, two bath bungalow in the historic Winnetka Heights neighborhood of North Oak Cliff is marketed at $290,000 by the Hewitt & Habgood Group. Now, I can’t decide if the price is right on this home, especially considering how much elbow grease I would have to use to get this house in non-retina-searing condition. Still, at 1,925 square feet, this home is mighty attractive!

Of course, I’d peel all the wallpaper down after the ink has dried on the contract. From there, it’s a coat of paint in the dining room, kitchen, and master bathroom. I am not entirely sure I’d repaint the kitchen cabinets, though. Maybe the galley-style kitchen just needs some recess lighting to make it feel less claustrophobic.

The master bedroom is a great size and has a small sitting area. There’s tons of storage, too, which is really uncommon for homes built in the 1920s. Many Arts & Crafts bungalows have one or two small closets at the most.

The tile master bath resembles a Mondrian painting, but it’s a great size and has both a large shower and a jetted tub — modern amenities that you won’t find very often in a house this age. The second bath, which has a claw-foot tub and a wall-mounted porcelain sink, is more this homes speed in the historical sense.

The backyard, well, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I love the deck, which is great for entertaining, and the landscaping is so well done. It’s welcoming and manicured without being rigid.

So, tell me: With these cosmetic changes, is $290,000 a good price?
