Friday Five Hundred: Famous Dallas Designer’s Home Jam-Packed With Style, Style, Style REDUCED TWO MINUTES AGO!

Share News:

This Friday Five Hundred is just a little bit late because I was out cheatin’ on my house before it got cold, finding you more House Porn! And lookie what I found lurking at 3914 Inwood Road: Perry Henderson’s house! Just so happens this manicured puppy is on Open House Tour Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. News flash: the price has just been slashed to $575,000 from $650,000. In fact, MLS probably still says $650,000 because the numbers on this price change are so hot you need to blow on them.

Perry Henderson & Patsy Donosky

This is the home of Dallas designer (and hairdresser) extraordinaire Perry Henderson. See those signature orchids — Perry’s trademark. For years Perry was busy as a one-armed paperhanger balancing a blowdryer, his hair studio on Turtle Creek Boulevard, and his design projects—from the Highland Park home of Luke and Mary Crosland to Scott and Diane Sealy’s 10,208-square-foot home on Hollow Way, a Cole Smith number probably with a new homeowner now, and a West Texas ranch for Claudia Settle, a world champion barrel racer, among many. He was the hairdresser to every socialite in town, from Margot Perot to Nancy Hamon. His clients and girls adore him. I enjoyed many a drink in this gorgeous living room, discussing the Dallas design world. Henderson loved to quote Allen Knight: “you just have to have staying power to survive in this business.” Indeed.

Well, this home sure has staying power, as in, once you settle in you won’t ever want to leave. Henderson spared not one dime when he decked this out. Double front doors open to a large open living area with brick walls, arched doorways, a beamed and vaulted ceiling, a fireplace, a chandelier and a wet bar. The back patio is an outdoor entertaining oasis with a slate deck, pool and spa, cabana and full bath. Brick, brick everywhere. The dining room features arched doorways, brick walls and a vaulted ceiling and large skylight. Not one but two spacious master suites, each with its own bath bath and fab storage. The kitchen has a large granite island with an Avanti wine refrigerator that I have helped empty, stainless-steel appliances including a Dynasty gas four-burner range and a Viking refrigerator, plus large skylight. The adjoining breakfast/morning room has a cozy fireplace.

Let’s talk about the Elephant in the Room: Inwood Road. Not a problem, really. In fact, maybe a plus. The house is tucked far back on a large lot (72 by 176) with thick masquerading foliage. The living happens in the back, on that slate deck. And DCAD has discounted the property taxes. Can you think of a better lock and leave home for an empty nester couple who don’t want a condo? You get 2721 gorgeous square feet, two bedrooms, two and a half baths, built in 1983. Get anywhere in five minutes! I did notice something curious, however, when I checked DCAD. The owners of this home are listed as Hamon Operating Company, as in the estate of the late Nancy Hamon. She surely didn’t live here — Mrs. Hamon had a condominium at The Mansion Residences. You don’t suppose, do you, that Nancy Hamon GAVE this house to Perry Henderson, as a tip? Now that’s a really great haircut!

You have got to be kidding me. She actually gave her hairdresser a house to live it? Only in Dallas!
